About / Biography

The Beard and the Bird’s musical journey spans from 1920s Western Swing to modern pop-folk with a definitive Rockabilly twist—a high-energy style rooted in their early careers within their small towns' punk scenes. This evolution from punk roots to vintage-inspired mastery has earned them significant industry acclaim, including being named Best Acoustic Duo at the Western New York Night Life Awards and winnning a San Diego Music Award for Best Folk/Acoustic Song for their single, "MyDearest Eloise." Whether appearing at major regional festivals like Gator by the Bay and Buffalo's Music is Art, or recording at Afterhours Studio in Ramona, the duo’s live chemistry and signature "slap-bass" percussion continue to captivate audiences on both coasts.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Our requirements depend a bit on the gig details but can usually get by with 2-3 parking spots, 2 x 13 amp power outlets, and a stage atleast 4 meters x 5 meters.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. Also need point of contact for questions leading up to the performance. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue o

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We have a full PA system and lighting available to cover up to 250 people outdoor if it is negotiated.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We absolutely can!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We loved playing in the New Year at the historic Ramona Town Hall in 2026 with some of our touring musicians. It was wonderful to break in the newly restored ball room with a wonderful crowd and occasion. Our favorite venue is Blueberry Treehouse in Western New York. Very special playing to hundreds of people out enjoying the Summer Breeze with us up in the trees!

What's your favourite type of event?

We absolutely love when we get people up dancing whether it's a festival or pub!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We started out gigging at wineries in the San Diego region and loved taking wild requests to build our repertoire.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We have a range of influences from Django Reinhardt to Bob Wills, Depeche Mode to Pokey Lafarge and Radiohead. Impossible to name the greatest song of all time but Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is a timeless masterpiece.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

It all depends a bit on the setup and how big our side of the production is. Usually we arrive 90 minutes before performance time if we are not running the sound and that gives us plenty of time to double check all the necessities. We perform up to 75 minute sets but need to schedule in breaks if we are doing multiple sets.

Are you happy to perform outside?

"We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area."

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit this to 5 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them.
