Shanty Sweets, a Toronto-based recording artist, singer, songwriter, composer and Dj is credited with a diverse musical style that blends Roots-Reggae, Dub, and Jazz influences. Shanty's music resonates with a rich tapestry of musical heritage.
Her debut single "Let it Burn," was released in Fall 2022, garnered widespread acclaim for its powerful rhythm track, cleverly written lyrics, and relevant subject matter. Her second release single “Grey Roses”, a tribute to the legendary Grammy award winning Sly and Robbie’s “Baltimore Rhythm” was released winter 2025, with the approval of Sly Dunbar. The song plays number one on Starliner’s Canadian Reggae Music Charts in May 2025. She was the recipient of Reggae Xclusive Canada’s top 5 performers award, 2024.
Shanty Sweets’ diverse talent landed her a spot DJ’ing on MasterKat Radio streaming live from Jamaica. She’s also a co-host and Dj on Canada’s Black X Kimo Radio (Thursday/The Shaolin Temple) as well as one of Canada’s longest running Reggae radio programs, “Reggae Riddims”/CIUT 89.5 FM with host Patrick Roots.
Shanty is currently working with her Reggae-Jazz Band, the “Shanty Sweets Quintet” and her backing Dj, JATTA iNiVERSAL, playing soul-jazz selections from the Studio 1 era of Reggae.
