P.A. system with 2 microphones, mic stands, rock drum kit, guitar amplifier and bass amplifier. We adjust to the venue.
Minimum stage size 6x4 meters. If we bring out own equipment we will need 2x power outlets and a parking space.
Exact address, contact information, opening-closing times. Let us know how to access the employee entrance, and how early we can show up to set up. How many people are expected to come and what kind of new wave you would like: upbeat hits, mellow hits, dark post punk?
If necessary we can provide sound equipment but we do not provide lighting.
We can provide music between sets if we have access to the soundboard. We can provide music before and after our sets.
We enjoy playing at What the Dickens in Ebisu, Tokyo. The venue has an extensive drink and food menu and built in audience.
One of the best gigs we played was for Shika ski lodge in Madarao, Niigata. The lodge was fully booked and the restaurant was packed with people dancing all night.
We love playing for audiences in their 50-60s or in their 20s! In other words: the children of those in their 50s and 60s who know all of our songs and sing along. We love surprising people with music they know but never hear played live.
I played in bands since I was 18 in the San Diego area. Once I moved to Japan I quit playing in bands but never gave up playing at home. One time my wife and I went to the Guitar Center in San Jose and saw a beautiful Rickenbacker on the wall. I bought it. With a Rickenbacker in the house, I had to start a band. Since nobody was playing the music I grew up on, I decided that new wave was the way to go. I like to think we started a revival of 80's music in Tokyo!
My personal favorite band is The Jam. I found them in the early 80s along with Elvis Costello & the Attractions, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Joe Jackson, The Kinks, The Stray Cats and more. MTV had brought many bands I had never heard of into my home including Billy Idol getting shocked by live electric cables! New wave was the antidote to slow 70's music.
It takes about one hour to set up and sound check. We arrive at least 2 hours beforehand so that we can set up and relax. If anything needs changing, we have plenty of buffer time to do that.
We love performing outside. We recently played the Nagayama Festival just outside the train station. As long as we have some shade from the sun and rain, we are ready to go.
We play a certain genre: new wave. That includes slow mellow songs like "Black Coffee in Bed", rockabilly songs like "Rock This Town", pop songs like "What I Like About You" and punk songs like "Sheena is a Punk Rocker". We stay away from songs and artists that have been overplayed. If you have a song in the new wave genre, feel free to ask us about it.
Most are pleasantly surprised at how many of the songs they know and how upbeat and danceable they are. When they hear "new wave", they aren't sure what to expect as the 80s have been overlooked for too long. We always get invited back to places we play once they hear us.
