"There’s more to Johnny Ticktin than meets the eye. Well-versed in the blues, having once served as lead guitar player for the legendary Louisiana Red, the open-minded Ticktin is a sponge, soaking up the subtle six-string nuances and intricacies of a multitude of genres—from surf to classic R&B, swing and even Mambo—on his eighth album with The Headhunters, That’s All I Need. It would feel right at home in any rough-and-tumble roadhouse. The title is borrowed from a song, covered here in all its dark, swampy glory, off Magic Sam’s 1967 iconic electric blues marvel West Side Soul. Watery, backwoods ripples of Sam’s tremolo guitar style and seductive rhythms meander through Creedence Clearwater Revival’s mysterious kudzu on Johnny & The Headhunters’ version, as Ticktin and company paddle up a lazy river of Bayou groove. Just as fluent in nasty rockabilly, they thrive in the sweltering heat of the 1957 obscurity “Chicken House,” giving it a warm buzz and making it rumble and swagger, while the lascivious, infectious funk of “Body and Fender” – a Doc Pomus/Duke Robillard joint originally built for soul crooner Johnny Adams – shakes all over and ogles the female form. A rousing, boogie-woogie version of Lowell Fulsom’s Chess Records’ hit “Rock ‘Em Dead” is wonderfully shambolic, and Ticktin rides the lightning of the Link Wray instrumental “Ace of Spaces” like a champ, gleefully wheeling through edgy garage-rock riffs with appropriate vim and vigor. What feel he and his band have for this material. There is not the slightest bit of indifference to it anywhere on this record. Not that they need it, but help arrives in the form of keyboardist Tam Sullivan, who wraps smoky, sensual organ and wraiths of piano around a soulful remake of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Lead Me On,” and singer Liz Springer, who joins her brazen vocals to Ticktin’s in the cheeky, but charming, duet “Watch and Chain.” And, with the solid machinery of a good backing band at work behind him, Ticktin can just let loose – witness the slide-guitar fury of their cover of Elmore James’ “Shake Your Money Maker.” For aficionados of tasteful guitar work and music that time shouldn’t have forgotten, this is what you need. —Peter Lindblad SPREAD THE NEWS! "What a great performance! From the load-in to the pack-out, Susan and the team were so professional and accommodating to our requests. We do monthly events, and our crowd has already overwhelmingly asked me to rebook Speed Limit 70. They played all the best music from our generation and some songs you never hear live. I would highly recommend this band for anyone looking for a professional, well-rounded get-up and dance night."

"We needed a band for our wedding in Lisbon. Given we had a themed wedding (rock and heavy metal), we’ve been looking for a band playing in this genre. We were so glad to have found Rocktonight, and when they sent us their setlist, there could be no other choice! We aren’t from Lisbon ourselves and all our guests were coming from somewhere else, so looking for a band had to be done remotely, and we weren’t able to meet the band in advance. But the communication with the band was great, with Laura replying to all our questions promptly. In addition, we somehow managed to pick the hottest day of summer for the wedding, but Laura and co. took up that challenge! They have been absolutely awesome! Not only they made everybody dance (mainly, jump), but they also learned our wedding song (a ballad by Steel Panther), which wasn’t an easy one to learn. Needless to say, all our guests were amazed by the band too! We doubt the party would have been the same without them. Highly recommended!"

"Recently booked Venus and Mars to play at my wedding. The whole booking was easy and quick. Band kept in touch before the date which was a weight off my mind I didn’t have to chase them up for anything. They arrived the night before the wedding and set up and did a sound check in plenty of time. The performance was world class, everyone has been complimenting us on choice of band, specifically we asked for a Pink Floyd song as it was my late father in laws favourite. The guitar player played comfortably numb and there wasn’t a dry eye in the hall. Incredible! Very professional! Great people to be around! Highly recommended!"

"We hold 2 weddings a week in our premises and Venus and Mars are fast becoming our go to band for package deals. It’s not just the level of ability it’s their professionalism and flexibility music wise. They played a function of all Irish Music during the afternoon just to help us out after the Irish folk band cancelled and then left to play their evening show 50 miles away afterwards. It’s that level of commitment and going the extra mile that means we have Venus and Mars back time and time again. Book this band you won’t be let down!"

"Just wanted to let everybody know just how good these guys are. Our wedding was on the 10th June in Shropshire and we couldn't of asked for a better band. Ben and guys were AMAZING and performed with such energy and enthusiasm. From start to finish they were professional and extremely friendly. If u are after a band to get the party started then book these guys. We had different ages and nationalities at our wedding and somehow they managed to get everyone up dancing and created the best wedding party ever. Thank you so much guys and good luck for the future"
