Photo of Bagpiper: Robert Mitchell Bagpiper: Robert Mitchell "Robert Mitchell was very sensitive to our wish for a softer sound in the church and used the border pipes. He was extremely professional, worked well with the organist and pianist, and provided a lovely Irish touch to my daughter's wedding. Afterwards, he played the bagpipes outside while everyone gathered to greet the new couple with bubbles as they hopped into their limo. In addition, he provided a transition to the reception by playing the bagpipes outside the entrance. We are thankful to Robert and heard many positive comments about him from our guests." Based in Columbia, Maryland John G. Photo of The Devil's Tailors The Devil's Tailors "The Devil's Tailors were fantastic. They were easy to work with and helped make our wedding event one to remember. They traveled all the way to Arizona from the east coast. I was grateful for their effort and desire to do it at a reasonable price. Everyone loved the bagpipes and the dancing with the fiddle and the piano. They called out the dances while everyone participated and everyone learned how to do them easily. Everyone was anticipating the next number when they could do it again. I definitely recommend using The Devil's Tailors for your next event. If you are thinking about having Scottish dancing at your event, but don't know if it would be fun, I will tell you to book them right now. It is an amazing time. And if you have had Scottish dancing before, The Devil's Tailors will do a wonderful job." Based in Alexandria, Virginia Jamie Williams - Wedding Photo of Hampton Pipes & Drums Hampton Pipes & Drums "During the planning of my fathers funeral I realized that I didn't call to book someone to play , in a panic that it was too late I found the Hampton Pipes website. Very shortly after I received a called from Victor. Immediately when is spoke to him I knew he was professional and caring that he was the right person for this special job. He did a great job played all the songs that we discussed and really made the day special. I know my Dad was smiling from heaven. Thank you Victor!" She is very communicative and responds quickly. I highly recommend her to perform for your wedding or event." We will be calling on Piper Gunn in the near future. A real talent." You were terrific to play up on the balcony...then lead out little "march" to the beach." Based in San Diego, California 17th September 2026 Shona Bielinski - 50th wedding anniversary

Frequently asked questions

The average cost of hiring bagpipers is $240, with prices ranging from $190 to $430+. Rates vary depending on the length of the performance, travel distance and whether the booking includes ceremonial piping, background music or both. Many pipers also offer options such as traditional Highland dress or specific tune requests.

Many clients book bagpipers for weddings, Burns Night celebrations, funerals, corporate events, graduation ceremonies and sporting occasions. A piper can provide a dramatic entrance for the bride, pipe in the haggis at a Burns supper or add a sense of ceremony to formal events.

Most bagpipers perform for 30 minutes to one hour, though this varies depending on the event. Bagpiping is physically demanding, so sets are typically shorter than those of other musicians. Many pipers can perform at several points during an event rather than in one continuous set.

Most bagpipers are happy to perform both indoors and outdoors. However, bagpipes are naturally very loud, so indoor performances may be more suitable in larger spaces such as halls, marquees or churches. It is worth discussing the venue with the piper to ensure the volume is appropriate for the setting.
