Folk Singers for Hire in Leeds

Q: How much do folk singers cost in Leeds?

The average cost of hiring folk singers is £250, with prices from £80 to £750+. Pricing depends on the singer's experience, performance duration and whether they perform with a guitar, other instruments or backing tracks. Folk singers suit a range of settings from intimate acoustic performances to larger outdoor events.

Q: Are pub and bar bookings different from private events?

A live folk musician working a pub or bar usually plays two or three shorter sets across an evening rather than one continuous performance, with an audience that comes and goes. The setup is lighter, since there is rarely a stage and the corner of a room is the normal spot. Rates for this work differ from function bookings, so it is worth saying which kind of event it is when enquiring.

Q: Do folk singers need amplification?

For small, intimate venues, many folk singers can perform without amplification. For larger spaces or outdoor events, a small PA system is usually needed. Most folk singers bring their own amplification equipment. It is worth confirming the setup with the singer based on the venue.

Q: What events are folk singers suitable for?

Hiring folk singers is ideal for weddings, pub and bar events, festivals, private parties, corporate dinners and intimate gatherings. The acoustic, storytelling style of folk music creates a warm, personal atmosphere that suits a wide range of settings.

Q: Can a folk vocalist perform as a duo or with a band?

Many folk singers offer flexible performance options, from solo acoustic sets to performances with additional musicians such as a guitarist, fiddle player or small ensemble. It is worth discussing line-up options with the singer when requesting a quote.

Q: What styles do folk singers perform?

The folk singers perform traditional folk, contemporary folk, Celtic, acoustic singer-songwriter material and folk-influenced popular music. Many folk singers accompany themselves on guitar, banjo or other acoustic instruments.

Q: Do folk singers perform their own material as well as covers?

Many are writers as well as performers and will mix their own songs with traditional material and familiar covers. The balance is usually the booker's choice and most are happy to lean either way. For an event where guests should recognise what they hear, say so, because a set of entirely new songs makes for a different evening.

Q: Will a folk singer get guests joining in?

Singalong choruses are part of the tradition and many performers use them deliberately, choosing songs a room can pick up inside a verse. How far it goes depends on the crowd and the point in the evening, and a good performer reads that rather than forcing it. Events wanting a quieter listening set should say so, as the same singer can do either.

Matt Baxter "Absolutely fantastic we had Matt for our wedding and from start to finish he made everything incredibly easy. His performance was fantastic, as was his voice and how he engaged with our guests if you’re considering booking Matt, go for it you will not be disappointed! An incredibly talented artist." Based in Leeds, England 19th August 2026 Adam Lofthouse - Wedding

Peter Bull "We are so glad that we booked Peter to perform at our wedding drinks reception. He played music from a range of eras, and it was ideal for our festive winter wedding in a Medieval venue. We knew he’d be perfect as soon as we listened to some of his sample tracks online, and in person he was even better. Peter provided a great atmosphere, he was friendly and got on well with the guests. Peter phoned a couple of weeks before the event to discuss our preferences for musical eras and instruments. We asked for a range of things (including a few Christmas carols), with slightly more hurdy gurdy, as it’s our favourite period instrument. Our guests loved Peter’s performance, as did we, and we 100% recommend him for events. We’ve had lots of comments afterwards from people saying how great he was. Thank you, Peter, for helping to make our day so memorable and festive" Based in Leeds, England Cathy Charlton Wedding at Askham Hall, Cumbria - Wedding
