Folk Singers for Hire in Newport

Q: How much do folk singers cost in Newport?

The average cost of hiring folk singers is £250, with prices from £80 to £850+. Pricing depends on the singer's experience, performance duration and whether they perform with a guitar, other instruments or backing tracks. Folk singers suit a range of settings from intimate acoustic performances to larger outdoor events.

Q: What styles do folk singers perform?

The folk singers for hire perform traditional folk, contemporary folk, Celtic, acoustic singer-songwriter material and folk-influenced popular music. Many folk singers accompany themselves on guitar, banjo or other acoustic instruments.

Q: What events are folk singers suitable for?

Hiring folk singers is ideal for weddings, pub and bar events, festivals, private parties, corporate dinners and intimate gatherings. The acoustic, storytelling style of folk music creates a warm, personal atmosphere that suits a wide range of settings.

Q: Can a folk vocalist perform as a duo or with a band?

Many folk singers offer flexible performance options, from solo acoustic sets to performances with additional musicians such as a guitarist, fiddle player or small ensemble. It is worth discussing line-up options with the singer when requesting a quote.

Q: Do folk singers need amplification?

For small, intimate venues, many folk singers can perform without amplification. For larger spaces or outdoor events, a small PA system is usually needed. Most folk singers bring their own amplification equipment. It is worth confirming the setup with the singer based on the venue.

Q: Do folk singers perform their own material as well as covers?

Many are writers as well as performers and will mix their own songs with traditional material and familiar covers. The balance is usually the booker's choice and most are happy to lean either way. For an event where guests should recognise what they hear, say so, because a set of entirely new songs makes for a different evening.

Q: Will a folk singer get guests joining in?

Singalong choruses are part of the tradition and many performers use them deliberately, choosing songs a room can pick up inside a verse. How far it goes depends on the crowd and the point in the evening, and a good performer reads that rather than forcing it. Events wanting a quieter listening set should say so, as the same singer can do either.

Q: Are pub and bar bookings different from private events?

A live folk musician working a pub or bar usually plays two or three shorter sets across an evening rather than one continuous performance, with an audience that comes and goes. The setup is lighter, since there is rarely a stage and the corner of a room is the normal spot. Rates for this work differ from function bookings, so it is worth saying which kind of event it is when enquiring.

It was for a friends stag do - we wanted some background jazz tunes for a bbq and then a more fun interactive set which they were able to provide. All round good fun. Would highly recommend!" Lindsay and Paul "Paul and Lindsay were the perfect addition to my grandma’s big family reunion / birthday party. Their communication throughout the booking process was flawless and professional. The actual performance was spell-bounding . The tunes they played were so nostalgic and nobodies feet could stay still. All guests were very impressed, and The Publicans were the talk of the party. Thanks again Paul - we hope to see you again soon! (10 / 10) Sophie Banner" Based in Oxford, England (76 miles from Newport) Sophie Banner

Evie Ingles "I booked Evie as a wedding surprise for my husband and family, and she was spectacular! She even travelled all the way to Buxton for our special day. Nobody else knew I had booked her, as she worked closely and secretly with just me ahead of time to plan the perfect surprise. Together, we custom-curated a setlist of songs that are incredibly close to our hearts. This required her to learn music she had never even heard of before, including a beautiful version of our first dance and the song from my in-laws' own wedding first dance. This made the performance deeply personal to us. Her performance, combining gorgeous singing with solo sax segments, was a massive hit and got everyone dancing. We received so many compliments from our guests, and she helped create a truly special memory for our family. We all loved her!"
