A guide to booking

Hire Guitarists in the United Kingdom

Solo guitar works at almost every point of an event, from ceremony music and drinks receptions through to relaxed evening sets. Before requesting quotes, it helps to decide where live music sits in your day: quiet background playing during food, a featured moment such as a first dance, or both. That decision shapes the set list, the equipment a performer brings and the price you are quoted.

Set Lengths and Running Order

A typical booking covers two 45-minute sets or three 40-minute sets with breaks in between, though most performers will adjust timings to fit around speeches, courses and other entertainment. For drinks receptions, many guitarists play longer, lighter sets at background volume; for evening slots, expect shorter and more energetic performances. Agree the running order in advance and decide who will cue the performer on the day, so timing changes reach them quickly.

Venues, Power and Outdoor Ceremonies

Indoor setups are simple: a chair, a small clear area and a nearby socket cover most performances. Outdoor ceremonies and garden parties need more thought. Ask whether the performer can bring a battery amplifier or play fully acoustic where there is no power, check noise policies and finish times with your venue before booking an amplified evening set, and make sure there is somewhere dry and shaded for both the performer and the instrument.

What a Guitarist Costs in the United Kingdom

Guitar players mostly quote per set rather than per hour, with rates in the United Kingdom starting from about £100 for a single instrumental set, typical bookings around £250 and singer-guitarists bringing their own PA reaching £700+. Longer performances, weekend and peak-season dates, and sets that include vocals all push quotes up. When comparing quotes, check what each includes: amplification, travel and time to learn requested songs are sometimes itemised separately. Booking ceremony and reception music with the same performer often costs less than hiring two separate acts.

Photo of Chris Flegg Chris Flegg "Chris is not only a highly accomplished musician, with fabulous guitar skills, he has a wonderful voice, and a great sense of fun. So happy to have him perform In our home, where he played a sang for 2 hours from an extensive list of songs old and new. We also enjoyed some light hearted banter with Chris during the evening. It was sad when it all had to end. No hesitation in recommending Chris for a personal or lively event." He played beautifully and made such a huge difference to our wedding celebrations. Everyone was blown away by his professionalism, skill, and kindness. A truly outstanding performer, thank you!" Based in Manchester, England 23rd September 2026 Laura S - Wedding Photo of Luminous Duo Luminous Duo "We booked the Duo for our wedding in Barcelona. Before the ceremony the Duo were incredibly helpful and flexible in helping finalise the set list for our welcome drinks and cocktail hour and the equipment they would require. We were also fortunate that the Duo learnt our first dance song, sending over a demo well before the ceremony so that we could check that we were comfortable dancing to it. On the day, both Nadine and Lumai were brilliant. They were exactly the style of performer we were looking for, with their bossa-nova sound setting the perfect atmosphere for our guests on their arrival and during our cocktail hour. We’ll always remember that we were fortunate enough to have a live band perform our first dance - thank you so much for making this happen!" Frequently asked questions

The average price for guitarists on Gig Heaven is £250, with rates ranging from £100 to £700+. Cost depends on performance duration, the guitarist's experience and whether the booking is for background music or a full live set. Guitarists on the platform cover a wide range of styles including classical, jazz, blues, rock, flamenco and pop.

The guitarists for hire in the United Kingdom cover a huge range of styles including classical, jazz, blues, flamenco, rock, pop, folk, fingerstyle and acoustic covers. Many guitarists are versatile performers who can switch between styles during an event to suit different moments.

Popular occasions for hiring guitarists include wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, corporate dinners, private parties, restaurant entertainment and ambient background music. A solo guitarist provides versatile, elegant live music that suits both intimate and larger settings.

Most guitarists are happy to learn specific songs for key moments such as a ceremony entrance or first dance. Many have extensive repertoires covering popular songs, classical pieces and jazz standards. It is advisable to discuss song requests with the guitarist well in advance.

Many guitarists on Gig Heaven play both electric and acoustic guitar and can choose the instrument that best suits the event. Acoustic guitar provides a warm, intimate sound for ceremonies and dining, while electric guitar is better for rock, blues and higher-energy performances.

For small, quiet settings, many guitarists can perform acoustically. For larger venues, outdoor events or noisier environments, a small amplifier or PA system is usually needed. Most guitarists bring their own amplification. For the best experience, discuss the venue size with the performer.

One player can usually cover the whole day, moving from processional and signing music during the ceremony to background playing over drinks and dinner. Timings are agreed in advance, since the ceremony music has fixed cues while the reception is more flexible. Where the ceremony and the reception are in different spaces, allow time to move and set up between them.

Most bookings run to two or three hours of playing time, split into sets with breaks, though the total time on site is longer once setup and soundcheck are added. Shorter ceremony-only bookings of around 40 minutes are common and are priced differently. Ask for playing time rather than hours on site, as the two are not the same.

Outdoor playing is common for ceremonies and garden receptions, and most players are happy to do it given shade and a level surface. Direct sun and damp both affect a wooden instrument, so a covered area is worth arranging even in settled weather. Wind carries sound away quickly, so amplification is usually needed outdoors even for a small number of guests.
