Photo of Cellist Miriam Louise Cox Cellist Miriam Louise Cox "Our father died aged 91 recently and as classical music had been his absolute joy throughout his life, we knew that we had to make it part of his small and very intimate funeral. How lucky (and delighted) we were to find that a professional, Miriam, lives locally and that she would like to be part of this celebration of his long life. Miriam could not have been more helpful or sensitive in helping us to choose and adapt four very special pieces and she played them beautifully, especially as unlike a wedding there was so little time for preparation. We shall never forget the sound of her playing her arrangement for cello of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Variants of 'Dives and Lazarus' as my father's coffin was lifted and borne out of the chapel, and continuing to hear it as we followed it to his final resting place. It was the one piece that he had ever mentioned as wishing to include at his funeral, and it meant a huge amount to have it played live by someone who cared very much about her role in the service. He would have loved to have heard it, and who knows, perhaps he did. Our heartfelt thanks, Miriam." We especially appreciated you being so adaptable with the music and various requirements on the day." You were amazing , on time, entertaining and definitely an amazing musician. You covered all my song requests that were my dad’s favourite, and even my personal Papa don’t preach which bought happy tears to my eyes. Thank you for making my Dad’s wake a memorable day that will be remembered for years to come." It’s hard to find someone who can get involved aswell as just playing, you danced and brang all the vibes we needed. You were amazing working alongside our Dj too, Will definately reach out for future partys. Once again, Thank-you." My daughter’s wedding vision included a saxophonist. Unfortunately as the bookings were made for everything, this was seen as a luxury and got pushed further down the list and then wasn’t going to happen. Fast forward to two weeks before the wedding and I saw a wedding post on facebook and Jamie’s name was mentioned numerous times. The stars aligned and I was exceptionally lucky Jamie was available . The absolute best decision I made! Jamie answered quickly to every message ( I sent many!), was so lovely and was absolutely awesome on the day. The playlist was perfect and Jamie brought such a great vibe. Everyone is still talking about him! Even in videos that we’ve posted people are commenting ‘who is he?’ ‘This is incredible’ My advice put Jamie at the top of your wedding list, or any party list, you won’t regret it! The only thing I do regret is not booking him for longer as it went so fast. Jamie you are incredibly talented and we are so grateful that we got to meet you and dance along with you! You’re calm, very cool, charming and exceptional!!!! You were an absolute highlight of the day, I have watched the videos of you and everyone so many times as it’s just such a natural, happy time that you couldn’t plan. I can’t wait for my next daughter’s wedding you are a definite!!!!" Based in Canterbury, England Amanda Lowe - Suprise Drinks Reception Photo of Kent Pianist Kent Pianist "Fantastic. Wonderful music and Rachel was a delight to work with. Highly recommend." Based in Hythe, England Graeme & James - Wedding

Frequently asked questions

Hiring wedding ceremony musicians typically costs between £120 and £950+, with an average of £340. The price depends on the type of musician, performance duration and whether the booking covers the ceremony alone or includes the drinks reception. Popular options include string quartets, harpists, solo vocalists, pianists and acoustic duos, and ensemble acts cost more than solo performers.

The most popular choices for wedding ceremonies include string quartets, harpists, pianists, classical guitarists, flute players and vocalists. The right choice depends on the venue and the atmosphere the couple wants to create. The wedding ceremony musicians for hire include a wide range of instrumentalists and ensembles to suit different ceremony styles.

Most wedding ceremony musicians perform for 30 minutes to one hour, covering the key moments such as the guest arrival, the processional, any signing of the register or documents, and the recessional. Some musicians also offer extended packages that include pre-ceremony background music or music during a drinks reception afterwards.

Most wedding ceremony musicians are happy to learn or arrange specific songs for key moments such as walking down the aisle. Gig Heaven recommends contacting musicians well in advance with any special requests, as some songs may need time to arrange for a particular instrument or ensemble.

Many wedding ceremony musicians are happy to perform outdoors, though this should be confirmed with the musician in advance. Outdoor performances may be affected by wind, rain or temperature, which can impact acoustic instruments. Providing a covered or sheltered area for the musicians and their equipment is strongly recommended.

Some wedding ceremony musicians offer packages covering both the ceremony and the drinks reception or the wedding meal. Others specialise in ceremony music only. It is a good idea to check each musician's profile for their available packages, or contact them to discuss a tailored arrangement.
