Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We need a performance area of at least 8 × 8 feet, with adequate lighting. If any musicians from the ensemble require amplification, they will need close access to a power source at the venue. We also ask that armless chairs be provided for the musicians in the space where they are to set up and perform. Lastly, we require that parking be covered for the musicians. If not already free and easily accessible, other parking options are typically reimbursement for SpotHero or other parking services, or validated valet parking. This ensures that the musicians can load-in quickly, safely, and smoothly.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know the venue's name and exact address. We will also need to be connected with a venue coordinator or point person so that someone knows we've arrived on site. Ideally, this person will also advise us on where to load into the venue with our equipment, and where to set up, and any other venue related questions at that point.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We can provide amplification equipment for our instruments, assuming a power source is also easily accessible. We do not provide lighting equipment.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, this is offered if you've booked the 'electric violin + tracks' package.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We performed a very lavish wedding at Chicago's House of Blues. One of our violin and cello duets performed on stage for the ceremony. It was fantastic!

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings! This is, of course, what we specialize in. We also love performing background music for all sorts of events like brunches, private parties, and cocktail hours as well.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We began this little company as buskers, performing outside for hours on the city streets of Chicago way back in 2012. After a few years of busking, we started to get requests for events like private parties and weddings. Fast-forward to now, and we have provided music for hundreds of weddings and special events, and have become one of the Chicago area's top go-to companies looking to hire live musicians.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Artists like Two Cellos, Vitamin String Quartet, The Piano Guys, and The Bridgerton Soundtrack have always been highly influential, and are the sounds we tend to emulate, and songs we most typically perform have been covered by these artists. In particular, Bridgerton's rendition of Coldplay's “Yellow” is a joy to play!

What ensemble options do you offer?

We offer a large range of ensembles, from soloists to string trios and quartets. We also offer ensembles that include guitar, piano, or harp as well. Our most popular ensemble is a violin & cello duet, however, string quartet is a very close second! Both of these ensembles offer a balanced sound with the most song selection options available. We have had a request for an unusual ensemble grouping of violin and saxophone -- so anything is possible, just ask!

How does the booking process work

Once we nail down your initial event details, we have a simple contract and invoice system that lays everything out clearly. Once the contract is signed, and deposit fee paid, this locks your event onto our calendar, and musicians in for the date. From here, you have fun choosing your song selections for the big day, and we're here to help guide you in the process. Closer to, we'll touch base to gather any remaining details that need attention. From here, we're all set and looking forward to performing for you!

What is your dress code?

All musicians will dress in what is commonly referred to in the music world as “concert black”, which means dressy black professional attire. If you would like us to wear something else, please let us know when booking your event and we can discuss the possibilities.

Do the musicians need breaks?

A 10-minute break is requested per hour of performing, if the event is 2 hours or longer. This does not apply to wedding ceremonies. Breaks can be staggered if the ensemble includes 2 or more musicians and the event requires continuous music. These details can be discussed prior to the event date.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Typically, musicians will arrive on site about 45 minutes — 1 hour prior to the downbeat (when they are to begin performing), for parking, loading into the venue, and setting up their equipment. They may need to tune and warm up as well, and this timeframe allows them to do this in the performance space. Once the performance is complete, musicians are usually packed up and gone within 15–20 minutes.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We can perform outside, but most string players prefer indoor venues. Some musicians can be much more flexible than others, while more fragile instruments (like the harp), do much better indoors. Venues that offer outdoor spaces should be able to provide some sort of overhead covering for musicians. Taking weather into consideration is also a must. Here is the language from our Contract:
“Client understands that string instruments are extremely valuable and are susceptible to damage when exposed to certain climate conditions such as rain, wind, direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Musicians must be provided with shelter/protection (ie, a tent, canopy, etc. — under a tree is not acceptable cover) when performing outdoors under ANY conditions. Client is strongly advised to have an alternate plan to move indoors. We do not supply cover or shelter of any kind, as that is the responsibility of the Client.”

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Yes. Wedding clients can choose specific songs for their wedding ceremony. Typically, 3 main songs — processional, bride entrance, and recessional. Otherwise, ensembles will play a nice mix of love songs and popular tunes to fill time for prelude music as guests enter, and cocktail hour music. Guests can have a say in specific songs for these portions as well, but we ask that clients try to stick to our song lists as much as possible when making song selections. We can learn 1 song not already featured on our list free of charge, as long as sheet music is available for the requested ensemble.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients would describe our music and services as “stunning”, “superb”, “amazing”, “professional”, “communicative”, and “exceptional”. All words used in recent client reviews. Most of our clients look for beautiful music to create a romantic and memorable vibe for themselves and their honored guests.
