Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Best Gig: French Quarter Fest in New Orleans — performing for a huge crowd in the heart of the city and bringing that authentic New Orleans brass energy to the festival.

Best Venue: BJ’s Lounge in New Orleans — one of our early breakthrough performances and a place where we really connected with the crowd and developed our live sound.

What's your favourite type of event?

High-energy festivals, concerts, and cultural events where we can get the crowd moving and bring that authentic New Orleans brass experience to life.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Da Voodoo Kingz started from the streets of New Orleans, building our sound through busking, local performances, and community events. We’ve grown from playing in Jackson Square to performing at festivals, private events, weddings, clubs, and concerts. Our experience is rooted in bringing authentic New Orleans brass, funk, soul, and high-energy live music to every crowd. What started as a local project has grown into a band focused on taking the New Orleans sound to audiences beyond Louisiana.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We’ve been heavily influenced by the sounds of New Orleans brass legends like Rebirth Brass Band, The Soul Rebels, and Hot 8 Brass Band, while also drawing inspiration from artists like Trombone Shorty, Prince, James Brown, and Earth, Wind & Fire. Our favorite artist is hard to narrow down, but New Orleans’ own Trombone Shorty is a major inspiration for what we’re building. As for the greatest song of all time, we’d have to go with “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire—it’s timeless, energetic, and gets everybody moving.

What makes Da Voodoo Kingz different from other bands?

What makes Da Voodoo Kingz different is our ability to bring the authentic energy of New Orleans brass music into any setting. We blend traditional brass, funk, soul, hip-hop, and modern influences while keeping the performance interactive and high-energy. We don’t just play for the crowd—we connect with them and create an experience they’ll remember.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Our typical setup time is 60–90 minutes, including soundcheck. We generally arrive 1.5–2 hours before the performance to allow plenty of time for load-in and preparation.

Our standard performance sets range from 30–90 minutes, depending on the event. For larger events, we can also structure multiple sets with short breaks.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely! We’re happy to perform outdoors and love bringing that New Orleans brass energy to festivals, street events, weddings, parades, and outdoor parties. We just require a safe, level performance area with adequate cover from rain and extreme weather, along with access to power and the appropriate sound setup.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients absolutely have a say in what we play. We have a strong repertoire, but we’re happy to take requests and work with clients to tailor the setlist to fit the event, crowd, and overall vibe. We’ll always do our best to make the music feel personal while keeping the energy high.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients most commonly describe our performances as high-energy, authentic, and unforgettable. They love the New Orleans feel we bring to the room, our interaction with the crowd, and the way we keep people dancing and engaged from start to finish. We’re more than a band—we create an experience.

How long can Da Voodoo Kingz perform?

Da Voodoo Kingz can tailor our performance length to fit your event. Our typical sets range from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, with options for multiple sets for longer events. We’re flexible and can build a performance that matches your schedule, crowd, and event needs.
