Diane Tropea & Don Hubbard are the core members of The Decades Band, usually performing as a duo and when needed they add a 3rd member usually a sax player, most often Austin's well known Paul Klemperer or Frank Demar. The core band has been together since 2015.
The Decades Band also know as The Decades Of Austin, has performed over 600 gigs in greater Austin. They perform popular multi-genre ( classic-rock; 50's-60's-Oldies; Classic-Country; Old-Country; Pop; Americana; Jazz; and Blues). Their normal setlist usually is a full mix of many genres and decades, that is their typical vibe, something for every music taste, age group and vibe needed for your events. You are welcome to request a single genre, otherwise we will do a very broad mix of genres to maintain high audience interest.
The Decades Band performs at weddings; restaurants; bars; wineries; festivals; benefits; fundraisers; anniversaries; cocktail / dinner parties; dances ; and large corporate events.
The main distinguishing features of The Decades Band is their very big band sound, which can be surprising since not many duo / trio bands can achieve that. You can hear that bigger band sound for yourself by just listening to our sample music up on this site. All sample music is from recordings taken at our live gigs around Austin and represent exactly how we'll sound at your event.
The best feature of our band however is always Diane Tropea, whose vocals will send you away with something special to remember. As our calendar suggests so many of our clients are repeat customers. Please check our performance calendar posted in the photos section on this site to learn where we'll be playing next. If you do come to a gig, please drop by the stage area while there so we can chat with you.
Finally, we encourage prospective clients to take the time to contact a couple of our regular reference clients to see what they think about us. And again, if time permits come see us live before deciding.
= areas covered (up to 100 miles)Our entire Song Catalog is too large to include here but this list represents
about 400+ Songs of mixed Genres and Decades that have appeared on our setlists.

Because we perform medium and smaller venues, we normally do not need and prefer not to use a sound engineer provided by the Venue. We manage our mix for mics and instruments, however we are fine providing the venue with a stereo or mono main out on 1/4-inch stereo, XLR or summed mono out from our board to the venues larger house system.
Other than that, we require only two (2) clean house power connections with 120vac 20amp circuits preferably. If commercial power is too far away from the play area, if requested we can bring our grid battery power equipment for up to 5 hours of play time.
Info we will need To know for all shows:
1) Can the band show up 1-hour early to start loadin ?
2) Can the band gain access to the stage 1-hour early to do setup & sound checks?
3) Can the single band equipment vehicle gain close by access to the stage area for loadin?
4) Will their be parking reserved for at least (2) band member vehicles and are they close to the stage?
5) We will need a contact name and cell # of the person who we should contact upon arrival ?
6) We will need to know if there are any time limits for loadin and particularly for loudout, (does any band follow our band)?
7) Does the venue provide any food and beverage allotment for the band, and if so what are the details for that?
8) If band family or friends come to the show, will there be reserved seating for them so we can tell them about it ahead of time?
9) Are there any shows before or after our show that may impact our loadin or loadout process or times allowed?
10 Any venue procedures we should know about?
Mixer & PA Sound Equipment:
We have all our own audio and PA equipment for audiences up to 600. That includes a mixer and (2) modest (2000watt) PA's and (1) (1000watt) SUB Woofer. We do not require any equipment from the client or the venue. We require only commercial power in the form of (2) 120vac 60hz 15 or 20amp circuits. This should be clean, dedicated power circuits not shared with other venue gear or lighting equipment)
Lighting:
We normally rely on whatever lighting systems are present at the venue, however if requested, we will bring modest stage lights for just lighting the performers area on a small stage.
Yes, we provide a customized Break-Music track sufficient for pre show and band breaks. However the venue is also welcome to use their own house music if they prefer.
Kalahari Resorts Round Rock is probably the largest and The Venue At Florence is probably the most interesting crowds and rewarding for the band.
We prefer more intimate venues with crowd sizes less than 400, small enough so you can have a conversation with the audience.
Vocalist Diane Tropea has been singing since her college days and did some touring in Los Angeles CA. Don Has been playing guitar since the 1960's. Diane and Don met at a chance meeting by a venue owner who had heard Diane sing. A few minutes in the studio convinced Don he needed to work with Dian. They both got together and formed 'The Decades Band' about 10-years ago and it continues to keep them busy performing music all over greater Austin and beyond.
Don and Diane perform together as a duo band, but Diane is also the lead vocalist for an 18-piece Big-Band, NOT-PAST-11, out of Georgetown Texas. Don also performs solo regularly and with a Jazz ensemble with a two different sax players, Austin's own Paul Klemperer or Frank Demar. Diane joins them when a Trio band is needed.
AS the guitar player I would have to say guitarists Tony Emmanuel; Chet Atkins; Eric Clapton; Glen Campbell; George Benson; The Ventures; George Benson; Duane Eddy; BB King; José Feliciano; Vince Gill; James Taylor; Stevie Ray Vaughan; Pat Matheny; João Gilberto; John Fogerty; Larry Carlton; Wes Montgomery; Django Reinhardt; Les Paul; Bonnie Raitt to name a couple dozen.
Diane Tropea has so many vocal artists in her favorites camp it is impossible to narrow down the list for listing here.
In our personal lives, we also frequent a lot of venues where we get critique what other small bands are doing. From that we've made some very deliberate efforts to avoid some pitfalls of others
1) Most audiences want to hear songs they know and love. But listening to the same genre and lyrics you don't recognize for hours on end can become pretty boring. That is why we perform a mix of songs from as many genres and decades as possible.
2) Many small bands tend to use only guitar as the primary instrument for accompaniment. Unfortunately after several hours of only guitar, all the music starts to sound the same. We deliberately mix in other instruments to provide some variety in our sound. Thanks to a guitar-synthesizer our songs may include a Trombone; Organ; Clarinet; Accordion; Flute; Vibes ; Harmonica; or Trumpet. This keeps the accompaniment alive and the multiple genres & decades helps keep the music interesting.
Vehicle to stage loadout time is typically 15-minutes.
Stage setup and sound check time is typically 45-minutes
Depending upon our clients needs, our performances are usually 2 to 4 hours in length, with a 15-minute break every hour. We are happy to schedule our breaks around your program activities or announcements if that works for you.
Stage breakdown and loadout is from 30 to 45-minutes.
Yes, we can play outdoors, preferably under a cover of some kind especially during the hottest summer momths..
Yes & No (there are a few limitations). We will play songs that are in our production song catalog and we are happy to share the catalog song titles with you ahead time so you may choose some of your favorites. In addition, you can request that we focus mostly on a particular genre / decade or set of genres and decades, and we'll do our best to accommodate that. Genres can be from Classic-Country; Old-Country; Classic-Rock; Americana; Pop; Blues; or Jazz, and decades can be from the 1940's through current years.
If you don't specify a genre we will provide our proven regular balanced mix of many genres and decades.
Planned Special Song Requests:
If you are hosting a special event such as a wedding or anniversary, birthday, and have a couple special songs you want performed, even if we don't normally do them, we will do our best to include them in the setlist. Roast type events would be an exception and we' need more details about the event to prepare an appropriate setlist.

Reviewed on April 2, 2025
The Decades Band was an excellent group for our corporate event at Bangers in Austin. They played to the crowd well and offered a variety of songs to keep the evening flowing.

From Austin, TX
The Decades were an absolute pleasure to have play our event! They showed up early, played exactly the type of set list we had asked for, and even stayed past the time we paid them for to continue playing as the event was such a hit. 10/10 recommend these folks, they will be open and clear with communication prior to the event as well, making everything so easy on whoever it is planning it all!
