Kathleen Turner Overdrive plays Songs in the Key of Cusack, drawing nearly all their song selections from the soundtracks of John Cusack movies like Grosse Pointe Blank, Say Anything, and Hot Tub Time Machine. KTO was founded by James Hearne (guitars, vocals) in early 2022, after a discussion with a friend about a joke from High Fidelity.
James met Justin Monroe (vocals) and Francis McGrath (keys, vocals) in another band (from which the three were all subsequently dismissed over a span of a few months); in need of a rhythm section, Francis called in Tyler Kirk (bass, vocals) and Gary Donald (drums, vocals), and KTO as we know it was born. From the jump, the band found their shared humor and inspirations to be complementary, and their first gig came in October 2022.
In October 2025, on their third anniversary, KTO also celebrated their 100th show, ranging from the grungy bars of Austin's 6th St and Rainey St to a featured spot at the Blanton Museum to private events at country clubs and decommissioned churches, stunning and delighting audiences with their high energy and tight performances, playing shows filled with jokes and choreography and the finest in (mostly) 80s dance music.

We need a stage area of AT LEAST 16' x 12', and reliable power (preferably 3-4 outlets, tho as long as we don't blow a fuse we can make do with fewer). Typically we would need 4 or 5 parking spots.
Mostly just the address for our GPS, but any particulars about load-in locations or quirks would be appreciated!
We can provide and run our own basic sound system (usually we come with a sound person) and a basic lighting rig; given notice and budget we can provide a more substantial sound and lighting rig.
We're happy to run a playlist around our sets.
We've played an adult prom for an arts non-profit (and are doing it again in February 2026), played the opening ceremony for the last two years of the O Henry Pun-Off, and last summer got to open for Urban Heat at the Blanton Museum of Art!
We love birthday parties, they've been some of our best crowds and energies! Really, tho, anywhere people want to get up and dance and enjoy being alive, we want to be the soundtrack!
All members of the band came up in other projects, but we formed in the spring of 2022 and had our first gig that fall. Three years and 100+ gigs later, we're adding songs all the time and loving the experience!
John Cusack.
David Bowie, David Byrne, Billy Idol... it's a long and diverse list!
Typically we arrive ~2 hours before showtime, and try to soundcheck 1 hour before (tho we can work with the schedule of your event as needed). For a 2 hour show, we'll usually go straight through, for a 3 we'll take a 15-20 minute break around the middle. If the party is jumpin' and the venue is agreeable, we're happy to keep playing beyond our time (tho we certainly don't mind being paid a little more in that case).
We will play outdoors but request cover from the elements (and an understanding about set lengths and breaks in the event of extreme heat or cold).
Given notice, we're happy to learn a song for the event; if you'd like more songs specific to you, we're willing to talk price.
"Kathleen Turner Overdrive is the real deal -- very talented, engaged with the audience, and they sound like the bands they are covering! I recommend them if you are booking a private event because they are easy to work with and genuinely interested in helping the audience have fun!"
"We have seen this group play a few times and they are just so much fun. I hired them to play for our golf club and everyone had a blast and they were so easy to work with. Their music appeals to both young and old (like me!). The 5 guys that make up this group are very talented and I believe they have been together for several years. I highly recommend this band….you won’t be disappointed."
"After attending multiple performances at diverse venues, I can attest to KTO's fabulous musical talent/skill, GREAT playlist, and consistently-high performance level.
I enthusiastically endorse KTO for ALL the event options listed on the website."
