About / Biography

FIDAS is more than an instrumental power trio. It's the realization of a musical vision that virtuoso guitarist and composer Filip Dascalu has pursued across years and countries. With his two albums "Through The Mirror" and "Here & Now," FIDAS presents a unique fusion of rock, blues, progressive and funk, infused with world music elements. What makes FIDAS special is the absolute authenticity of their music: Filip Dascalu doesn't just play guitar virtuosically—he builds his instruments himself. His handcrafted guitars form the foundation of a distinctive sound characterized by an extraordinary tonal range. Dascalu's guitar playing evokes giants like Andy Timmons, John Mayer, or Joe Satriani, yet develops its own style through his characteristic, slightly funky touch that immediately catches the ear. The story of FIDAS begins in Romania, where Filip Dascalu wrote some of his compositions but couldn't find musicians who shared his vision. After moving to Munich in 2017, he recorded the songs himself in 2022, playing all the instruments. Now he's finally bringing this music to the stage with FIDAS— authentic, virtuosic, and full of passion. For the live realization of his musical vision, Filip Dascalu has enlisted two accomplished musicians in Friedhelm Wapelhorst on bass and Thomas Kriesmann on drums, who bring the necessary power and dynamics to his music on stage. FIDAS unfold their special effect especially in the intimate atmosphere of smaller venues and clubs. There, audiences can experience Filip Dascalu's unique devotion to his instrument up close and become part of a special musical moment.

What information do you require about a venue?

We’ll need clear directions for reaching the venue and details on the best spot to load in our gear. It’s also important for us to know in advance if there’s a sound limiter installed at the venue.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we’re completely self-contained. We bring our own PA system for all gigs, but please note that we do not provide stage lighting.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify, or other streaming platforms, before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We’re still in the early days with this band, so every gig so far feels like a highlight. But since a few of us played together in another project for a couple of years, we already know how good it feels when the chemistry clicks live. The best show so far with this lineup was [specific gig], and it made us excited for the bigger stages ahead."

What's your favourite type of event?

Even though this band is only one year old, we’ve got experience from playing together in the past, so we know what makes a gig memorable. Our favourite type of event is one where the energy goes both ways—the crowd feeds off us and we feed off them. That can happen in an intimate bar or on a big festival stage, and we’re excited to chase both.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

As this band we’ve been together for about one year, but some of us actually played in another project together for more than five years. That’s where we first started gigging — playing local venues, building confidence on stage, and learning how to work a crowd. With this current band, we’ve picked up where we left off, bringing that past experience into something fresh. We’ve already started gigging again and we’re excited to push further and play bigger shows.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

We’ve been influenced by guitar legends like Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, and Andy Timmons, as well as iconic artists and bands like Sting, Queen, Yes, Van Halen, and Rush. Their combination of technical skill, emotion, and memorable melodies has shaped the way we write, play, and perform our music today.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We typically arrive about two hours before showtime to set up and soundcheck. Our standard performance format is either two 45-minute sets or two 60-minute sets, which we’ve found works best for both us and our audiences. That said, we’re flexible and happy to adjust the length slightly to fit the event.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to perform outdoors, provided there’s sufficient shade, a flat, level surface, and a nearby power supply for our equipment.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We’re happy to learn up to 3 specific songs for your event. You’re also welcome to choose a set list from our repertoire, or simply let us curate the music for you.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers would describe us as a high-energy group that connects with the audience and keeps the atmosphere alive.
