About / Biography

The JT Quintet, featuring a saxophonist, a trombonist, a guitarist, a keyboard player, a bassist, and a pianist, performs live jazz music regularly.

This group consists of young, emerging artists in the Adelaide music scene, but don't assume their age means lack of quality! This ensemble includes many nationally-acclaimed musicians and writers, and is guaranteed to make your foot tap!

Whether you want original jazz music, or a bunch of standards or classics, the JT quintet has you covered!

Additionally, as of December 2026, the group will have released their debut album, of jazz and jazz-adjacent works composed by the bandleader, Johnny Turner, featuring one of Australia's most successful jazz trombonists, Thomas Voss.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We need a performance space of at least 6.5m x 4 m. We require 3 power sockets. We require space for 4 parking spaces.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know directions, stage sizes, any info about a loading bay. Please let us know if there’s a sound tech, and if there are any sound limiters in the venue.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We provide all the sound equipment, but not lighting.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we can play music from Spotify before, after, and between sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

The best gig we as a group have done would be the COMA Emerging Artist Award Concert, where we as a group performed 4 pieces of original music to a large crowd.

There have been many great venues I’ve played at, including the Gov, and Elder Hall.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love playing all sorts of events, but the best kind is ones where those involved love listening/interacting to the music! Whether it’s weddings, corporate functions, or performances, as long as the guests are getting involved we’re happy!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We started gigging from just getting together as a band, and then reaching out to numerous places. As a group, we have the combined gigging experience of nearly two decades, all throughout Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

The artist I have been influenced by the most is Pat Metheny. My favourite artist of all time is probably Earth Wind and Fire. The greatest song of all time is definitely September!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually arrive 1.5 hours before the performance to set up and sound check. We usually perform 2 x 45 minute sets, with 10 or so minute intervals. We’re happy to accomodate your preferences, including longer or shorter sets, however we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely! If it’s a sunny/dangerous UV day we ask for shade. We also require a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area capable of holding 3 plugs.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely! We can curate our set depending on your needs, however if you are just wanting ‘jazz’ music, we have several hours worth of music so we are happy to choose the music.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

They describe us as a vibrant young band who “delightfully mixes creativity and musicality”, providing a captivating performance.
