About / Biography

Elevate your special day with the timeless elegance of Scottish bagpipes.

Available for international events. Travel and accommodation not included.

Leman Piping brings the authentic sound of Scotland to weddings, corporate events, gala dinners, private celebrations, and prestigious ceremonies across Switzerland and internationally.

Yann Le Mouel began playing the bagpipe at the age of eight in Brittany, France, and has since built over 30 years of experience performing at the highest levels of Celtic music.

Throughout his career, he has performed with renowned ensembles including Bagad Cap Caval, Bagad Kemper, Bagad Fouesnant, the Piping Orchestra, Pipes and Drums of Geneva, and Powers of Lemania, where he currently serves as Pipe Sergeant.

In 2005 and 2006, Yann won the Botuha-Raud Trophy, awarded to the best piper under 20 years old. He later competed at the World Pipe Band Championships with the Australia Highlanders Grade 1 Pipe Band, reaching the Grade 1 World Championship Final and achieving an impressive 4th place overall.

More recently, he won two Brittany Championship titles with Bagad Cap Caval and performed at major international events, including the Nha Trang Sea Festival in Vietnam in front of more than 100,000 spectators.

In May 2026, Yann was crowned Swiss Piping Champion in St. Gallen after beginning studies with renowned Scottish piper Donald MacKenzie.

Among his recent highlights, Yann performed at the prestigious Royal Ball held at the Château de Versailles, an exclusive event organized in support of The King’s Foundation, celebrating British heritage and excellence.

Whether performing for an intimate wedding ceremony, a corporate reception, or a grand international event, Yann combines musical excellence, professionalism, and Scottish tradition to create unforgettable moments.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I am fully self-contained and require no technical setup or equipment from the venue — just access to the agreed performance location.

What information do you require about a venue?

I like to know the ceremony timing, exact performance locations (arrival, aisle, drinks reception, etc.), parking access, and any venue restrictions (indoor/outdoor, weather contingency, sound limitations).

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

As a solo bagpiper, I am fully self-contained and do not require amplification for most events. For larger receptions or specific requests, amplified solutions can be discussed.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, I focus exclusively on live bagpipe performances, but I’m happy to coordinate timings seamlessly with your DJ, band or wedding planner

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

My best gig was at the Nha Trang Sea Festival in Vietnam — performing for more than 100,000 people. A moment I’ll never forget.

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings are my favourite events, particularly creating unforgettable musical moments for elegant ceremonies and celebrations, though I also enjoy private and corporate events.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started playing the bagpipes at the age of 8 in Brittany and have been performing ever since. My experience includes international festivals, Grade 1 pipe band competitions, championship-winning bands, and performing at weddings, private events and corporate occasions across Europe and beyon (Vietnam). Bringing both tradition and professionalism to each event is at the heart of what I do.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Gordon Duncan, Stuart Liddle

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I usually arrive 30–45 minutes before the performance. Performance length varies from a ceremonial appearance of a few tunes to longer sets for drinks receptions or events, tailored to each occasion.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, absolutely — many of my performances are outdoors.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely — clients are welcome to choose favourite traditional tunes or discuss specific requests. I’m always happy to help shape the musical moments of the event.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Elegant, moving and memorable — often described as adding a truly special and emotional touch to an event.
