The Not 2 Cool Jazz Band is a professional music group led by trumpet, piano, and harmonica player Michael Grasso. Focusing on music from a bygone era, they bring an intimate, lyrical sound inspired by the West Coast style of Cool Jazz. Their wide-ranging repertoire includes memorable standards, romantic ballads, soft rock, bossa nova, and classic jazz, blending timeless melodies with a modern soul.
The band performs at weddings, receptions, festivals, restaurants, coffee houses, and special events throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. We offer flexible configurations, ranging from a duo or trio to custom ensembles, and easily adapt to any venue, performing indoors or outdoors, acoustic or amplified.

Michael Grasso is a trumpet player in the Baltimore-Washington area. He is a "comeback" playing, who picked up the horn after stepping away for several years. He was born and raised in northern New Jersey and studied jazz and music composition at New Jersey City University. He currently works as an emergency medicine physician for the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Michael has an intimate and lyrical sound, inspired by Chet Baker, Miles Davis, and Toots Thielemans, and which follows the west coast style of cool jazz. In addition to the trumpet, he plays piano and chromatic harmonica. He is a member of the Not 2 Cool Jazz Band, which performs timeless and tasteful melodies from the 1920s through the 1970s, including classic jazz, swing music, bossa nova, and soft rock. In addition, he is a volunteer for Bugles Across America, through which he plays taps at funerals to honor veterans.
We normally arrive 30 minutes before the performance. We typically break for 15 minutes each hour, but are happy to adjust this to fit the needs of your event.
We can play inside or outside, and with or without electricity.
We are happy to consider song suggestions.
