SERGIO MEDINA & LAVIDA QUARTET are 4 talented musicians from Cuba, Columbia and Portugal. Together they developped a latin music repertoire with well-known classical standards and less known treasures of mostly cuban background, son, boleros, chachacha, rumba and guaguanco. The singer, writer and componist Sergio Medina also brings in some of his own compositions which are written for an orquestra of 8-9 musicians.
In the Quartet formation they draw on the old Buena Vista Social Club tradition and fuse traditional Cuban rhythms of Son with new influences of modern European jazz. They celebrate Caribbean swing with powerful improvisations, danceable and infectious. The spark of Caribbean joie de vivre jumps over and enlivens every celebration.
