Ska Train celebrates the UK ska revival of the late 1970’s and early 80’s, a movement pioneered by Jerry Dammers’ iconic 2-Tone record label, and which included bands like The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners and The Selecter. The band’s seven-piece line-up includes spine-tingling horns (trombone and sax) and a rock-solid rhythm section, with guitar, keys and vocals that will transport you back to an explosive musical era of punk, politics and messages of peace.
Since 2023 Ska Train have established a record-breaking run of sold-out dates at Leamington Spa’s award-winning Temperance Music Bar, have supported US ska-punk band Monkey on their UK tour, have played live on stage with former members of The Specials, and have headlined festivals including the Congleton Jazz and Blues festival, MurphFest, Astonbury and Art in the Park.
So if you’ve ever set sail in a Night Boat To Cairo, gazed at your Mirror In The Bathroom, or simply done Too Much Too Young, get on board the Ska Train now for an unforgettable live musical journey that will truly take you One Step Beyond...

Apart from some kind of parking provision for at least 5 vehicles outside the venue, all we need is a single 13A power supply. Minimum stage space is probably around 20 sq metres but we are super flexible on this.
1. Is there a hard cut-off time and if so, what is sit?
2. What time can we access the venue to soundcheck?
3. Is there a sound-limiter at the venue, and if so, what is it set to?
Yes we can bring our own self-contained full sound and lighting rig if required.
Yes we can provide spotify/playlist background music during set-up and during any breaks. We can provide a live DJ of any genre before and/or during/after for a small additional charge.
We have have featured numerous VIP guest musicians on our stages, including former members of The Specials and The Selecter, and have done so at various venues including multiple dates at the iconic 2-Tone Village in Coventry, the birthplace of 2-Tone.
Any kind of private party is always great fun as absolutely everyone is up for a good time - it only takes one rudeboy or rudegirl to start dancing (and there's always one!), and everyone else will join in when they listen, smile, and start to move their feet...!
We are a 7-piece band with well over a century of live gigging experience between us! Our connections with playing live vary enormously; for example our trombonist Nik McKiernan, the First Lady of the Ska-bone, was born in Coventry and raised on this music, and our guitarist Gorgeous Neil Craythorne is so entrenched in the ska he would bleed black and white, and has two dogs called Prince and Buster!
Without doubt it is bands like The Specials and Madness, along with some of the greats of original Jamaican ska which occasionally find their way onto our set list. Alongside the music, Jerry Dammers' attitude of peace and culture continues to be an inspiration to this day, the man's a living legend!
We can perform as a 6-piece if this was crucial, but that would mean leaving out one of the horns, and who would want that?!
Absolutely no problem at all, we are flexible, just keep us in the loop as much as possible!
Yes we can provide our own Spotify playlist by arrangement or, if you prefer, you can Bluetooth onto our system and play whatever music you want from your own device.
Yes, we always do that! Well, not the drummer or the keys player obviously, and the trombone would be a massive health and safety issue! But the rest of us will make constant trips to the dance floor and beyond while we're playing, sometimes all at the same time!
We usually play 2 x 60 minute sets with a 30 minute break in between, although obviously this has to be flexible so can fit into whatever timings and logistics you need it. Timings are up to you, although we always advocate not starting the live set too early at parties, as people are wanting to chat, and probably eat something, before they get down to the serious business of dancing into the night. We need to allow up to 2 hours to set up and sound check, but we can clear down and get out in half an hour if we need to.
Love playing outside! As long as our gear is protected from the elements of course!
We choose our set list, based very heavily on the classic 2-Tone songbook of the late 1970s and early 80s but usually with a few crowd-pleasing curve-balls thrown in. Additionally, in advance of the event, clients can request ANY song for us to do if they have a special request (as long as we have enough warning to rehearse it!) - if it's not a ska song that's fine, we will skank it up!
Superb crowd interaction. Fantastic musicianship. Reliable and punctual. Super-friendly. Brilliant song choices.
