Review Centre: Festival Themed Bands

"Last night I met up with some pals down at the very hospitable Mermaid Inn to check out the latest musical venture of the great Harmonica Lewinsky. We’ve always been highly entertained by his music hall/cockney act and indeed his 60s/70s cover material, but this was to be something of a completely different flavour – a country/ western swing experience! Launching into ‘Glendale Train’, Lewinsky and his band, The Highway Patrol, soon had the place rocking. The sound of finger pickin’ Dzal Martin’s Telecaster was the perfect accompaniment and upright bass player Ewan Penkey’s rhythm proved that no drummer was required. As well as rockers such as ‘Panama Red’, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ and the brilliant tongue-twisting ‘Hot Rod Lincoln’, Lewinsky and the boys were also able to deliver truly 'hurtin' & heartbreaking' melancholy classics such as Warren Zevon’s ‘Carmelita’ and Kenny Rogers’ ‘Ruby’. Their touching version of Commander Cody’s ‘Seeds & Stems Blues’, featuring the wonderful pedal-steel guitar playing of John Davis, (who had been impeccable all evening) had me almost crying into my pretzels. Personality and humour has always been an important part of Harmonica Lewinsky’s act and, with his usual banter and rapport, he certainly didn’t let us down. We particularly enjoyed the tongue-in cheek ‘All My Exes Live in Texas’. Thanks for a great night, boys – we look forward to the next time."

"Hiring a band is always a difficult experience and we could not have been in safer hands with Rich and the band! We wanted something special for the day time so we hired Billy to perform as a soloist for us and then the rest of the band performed in the evening. Everything was so special and the perfect accompaniment to our wedding day."

"BEST BAND EVER!! We had The Lucky Saints play in the evening at our wedding at The Cruin last weekend. We appreciated their communication before the big day so much for making us feel so at ease and they arrived in plenty of time on the night. Other than our first dance and a few common requests, we wanted to leave them to do their thing - and boy did they deliver! They unexpectedly started (after our first dance) with a Gay Gordons ceilidh dance which was a surprise and really turned out to be the best way to start the evening - getting everybody up onto the dancefloor and having a laugh! They then moved seamlessly on to indie anthems, classic pop tunes and dancefloor fillers - they always knew what to play next to keep everyone on their feet. All tied up with a beautiful rendition of Loch Lomond to finish the night. The dancefloor was filled the whole evening and our guests kept commenting on how great the band were - particularly the beautiful female vocals and their ability to perform such a range so well. They even gifted us a bottle of "The Lucky Saints" branded bubbly to top it off! Thanks so much for giving us the best party on our special day!! True professionals and such a lovely group, we would highly recommend!"

"We had HayLee at our wedding in July and they were amazing! The communication before the day was brilliant, they added bits on to the package we chose to personalise it to our needs and they kept the dance floor completely filled the entire night! Loads of our guests commented on how great they thought they were too. Really lovely ladies, great musicians and would not hesitate in recommending them to anyone in the future! 10/10 Thank you so much for making our wedding fantastic!"

"We booked Gay Elvis for Southampton Pride 2022 and were absolutely delighted with his performance, professionalism and pazazz! The crowd adored him and from an organising committee's point of view, he was a dream to work with. The communication was great all the way through the process, he was quick at responding to requests and sending tracks and promo material and we would highly recommend him to anyone! Needless to say we have booked him again for Southampton Pride 2023 and can't wait to have him back!"

"I had not seen these guys before my party but they were recommended by a few different people. To say I was delighted would be an understatement- they played for over two hours non- stop and kept the party going- everyone danced! They seem to have an endless repertoire of different genres and are good fun. Book them !"
