Review Centre: 1950s Era Musicians & Bands

"Rick Holland and his band played our wedding on August 28, 2010. Rick could not have been more accommodating to my husband and my wants and needs for music at the wedding. We communicated through email, over the phone, and met with each other once to go over the details. Rick was very thorough and always set our minds at ease. During our ceremony, his quartet played us up the aisle with a romantic song and down the aisle with ''Fireworks'' which set the mood for the festive evening to begin. The cocktail hour began immediately following the ceremony and Rick''s band did not miss a beat....the little big band entertained guests while they mingled and got a bite to eat. When the wedding party was ready to be announced, Rick took the microphone as we were all introduced. After the speeches were out of the way, Rick and the band let loose! With a full band and two singers, a male and a female, we partied for the next four hours! The guests were dancing, singing, and truly having a great time as did we! The band definitely made the night! The songs were exactly what we requested and the sound quality was superb. I would gladly book Rick and his band for another occasion as well as recommend them. "We were fortunate to book, 'Dinner Jazz Duo' for our recent wedding. They played a wonderful programme of music rich in the nostalgia of the American Songbook, which is what we requested. Wow. Their performance was greatly enjoyed by all, impeccably played, sublime. They are consummate professionals, they arrived as they said and set up in good time and as previous reviews confirm, they are exceptionally talented musicians. "Marino and the gang were fantastic from start to finish. Extremely flexible and very easy to deal with, Marino went to every effort to organise a fantastic day & night’s entertainment for us including organising the DJ and admin such as the music tax. The band themselves were very talented musicians; I had a couple of professional musicians as guests who both commented on how good the band were musically! The ceremony music was a lovely background to festivities, the Italian acoustic music made the drinks reception sparkle and the band played with such energy in the evening that everyone was on the dance floor all night! Brilliant selection of songs mixing traditional Italian with modern classics. All that along with some extra special touches. Very highly recommended, you won’t regret selecting the Italian Wedding Band to help celebrate your big day!"

"We hired Good Co to play at our home for a company party of 50 guests. They were on time, polite, fun and every one had a wonderful time. They paid attention to the wants of the crowd and catered to their likes. They were by far the highlight of our party. Next time we have a bigger party we'll hire the whole band (we only hired 3 band members due to the small crowd). Book this band - they are a sure bet from a small house party to a huge soiree."

"We stopped by to see Miss Pearl do her Paloma Faith tribute act at the Milbourne Arms in Carlisle, last night. Miss Pearl was on point, singing all of Paloma's hits and some of her less known songs. She has an excellent voice and also did some of her vintage songs aswell. It was a thoroughly enjoyable night and we even had a dance. We will hopefully see Miss Pearl again soon, as we want to book her for an up-and-coming private party."

"Friday 24th November 2023 - The Jazz Kings - Tweed Valley Jazz and Blues A superb gig to bring a fitting close to a year of top-flight music. ‘The Jazz Kings’ left us in no doubt why they are currently rated among the top outfits on the North Coast. Each of them – Nicole Parker-Brown on vocals, Peter Uppman on vocals and trumpet (sometimes almost at the same time), Gordon Matheson on guitar, Col Atkinson on bass and yet more vocals, and Jose McLaughlin on keyboards – is an accomplished performer in their own right, and in combination they are a musical powerhouse to be reckoned with. It was an evening of eclectic mix, from popular jazz standards, through blues arrangements that will be appearing on their latest album, to occasional dips into the classical realms, and a few nostalgic ‘pop’ reminiscences. Among the favourites were their own arrangements of evergreens such as ‘Night and Day,’ ‘All Of Me’, ‘Misty’, ‘Georgia On My Mind’ and ‘Making Whoopee’. Jose even gave a nod towards his earlier career as keyboard player and musical director of ‘Gerry and the Pacemakers’ with his updated arrangements of ‘Ferry Cross the Mersey’ and ‘Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying’. All in all, a great end to 2023, and the Club Committee took time at the end to wish all members and visitors a happy and safe Xmas and a prosperous New Year. If it promises music of the same quality as this past year, then we’ll have no complaints."
