A live caricaturist in South Africa draws cartoon-style sketches of guests during cocktail hour or the reception, finishing each one in 3-5 minutes. Most artists work through 10-15 faces per hour for black-and-white sketches, slightly fewer for full colour or group drawings, which makes throughput planning straightforward for events of any size.
A small table, two armless chairs and around 5x8ft of space is enough for a single artist. They bring their own paper, pencils and easel, and can email digital files to guests after the event if you book a tablet-based caricaturist instead of a traditional one. For longer receptions or larger guest lists, booking two artists side by side keeps the queue moving and avoids the disappointment of guests missing out.
Rates for caricaturists in South Africa range from R1,300 to R12,500 per hour, with most artists requiring a two- or three-hour minimum. The average booking price is R3,350. Faster artists, full-colour work, digital tablet sketches and personalised event branding sit at the higher end of the range, while shorter bookings or off-peak dates can land lower.
The average price is R3,350 (ZAR), with most priced from R1,300 to R12,500. Contact the supplier you like for an accurate quote.

Besmitten Live Event Caricatures
"Absolutely love our Caricature drawing!!! Amazing talent!"
Nico Phooko. Live On Stage Painter
".
Yesterday I got fed both spiritually and materially at Soweto’s Just Badela eatery when I attended a heart-warming joint jazz presentation by Just Badela & ‘EXPRESSIONS by Siphiwe Mhlambi’ – the latter is an event series that capture the soul of jazz through Mhlambi’s evocative photography that blends rhythm and emotion into his every frame. I can right now without any whiff of doubt declare that the event lived up to its brand promise of delivering “an unforgettable afternoon with the legendary Herbie Tsoaeli, the master of double bass and a pioneer in South African jazz” to a full-house sit-down audience. (Indeed I) experience(d) the soul-stirring melodies and rich rhythms that have captured audiences around the world.” Nico Phooko was drawing inspiration from the music and the soul-caressing ambience by live painting a piece that will become a new addition to his “Notes & Strokes” series. The MC was Ngwako Malakalaka from Kofifi FM. We had the opportunity to witness Mhlambi autographing copies of our recently published book, “Rhythms in Black & White: A Virtual Journey Through the World of Jazz”, to happy revellers. Another illustrious author/publisher, Sam Mathe, manned a table selling his book too, “From Kippie to Kippies And Beyond”, on whose pages live our musicians. We do appreciate the platform that Just Badela provides to independent publishing and art ."
