Photo of Jaylene Fergus Jaylene Fergus "Jaylene’s beautiful music provided our Changeover Dinner with a delightful ambience. Jaylene played when required and put up with our speeches when not playing. Then ended with some dancing. Thanks Jaylene" Based in Townsville, Queensland Josephine Saunders Photo of Lafa Lafa "wonderful band! everyone is playing extremely well! like music they are playing!" Based in Windsor, Victoria Peter Arc Photo of Gabriel Gonzalez Gabriel Gonzalez "Thanks for a thrilling performance, Gabriel. There is no doubt that your mastery of piano and keyboard is imminent. While I can barely play piano, I do listen as I did when I was last in Sydney. That you have come so far, with such a large repertoire of both classical and South American masterworks, is not presented in what is a grouping of informal music. May I commend you on the interesting variations of intonation that you are able to express. Your technique is enviable. I am unfortunately not an expert in critique. What may help you as you press on to a rating of 102 out of 95, are some observations. That the Kwai is good is undoubted, and even with the Beale that you played upstairs in Allans, before Allans closed, the Pitt Street store, compared against the longer Yamaha Grand that you also played, in any of these, the higher octaves can sound a bit thin against the richness of the lower and middle registers. There were moments in My Way, when I sensed the thinness of the upper octaves. I thought also that as you had to reach so far, you had in fact more time than you think, to add more tone and meaning. I thought that you were a bit rushed at that point of the performance. You have all the skill necessary. Just take a little more time, particularly on your first right hand move into the upper octaves, to let the jazz notes fall like a sprinkling of rain. They are short notes and to fit them into strict time with such a large move up the keyboard, seems for a moment to squeeze the time you think you have to execute several high notes. Elsewhere in the several performance pieces, you extract a richness also in the higher octave notes. Well done. That the piece New York has syncopation and time changes is challenging. Your performed well. I do seem to think that you may benefit by understanding or viewing performances of tap dancers dancing to the piece. It is a difficult idiom, and not one I used to adore. So if we have experienced the dance moves, we may then relate better to the changes. Still very good playing. I so much enjoyed your performances." Her music was so elegant and emotional, and it created the perfect atmosphere for the evening. You could really feel her passion for the music. It was a pleasure to listen to her and definitely one of the highlights of our stay." We worked together to had the best piano recital on my Wedding day. he is outstanding, he plays really beautiful and with a really good technique!" Based in Paris, Île-de-France Region, France 30th September 2026 Alvaro Martin - Wedding Photo of Saxophone and piano duo Saxophone and piano duo "We had the saxophone and piano duo playing for both our ceremony and drinks reception, and they were honestly one of our favourite parts of the day. The music during the ceremony was absolutely beautiful and made everything feel so special without being over the top. Then for the drinks reception they completely changed the atmosphere — relaxed, fun and just perfect while everyone was chatting and having a drink. So many of our guests mentioned how much they loved the music, which says it all really! They were also so easy to deal with in the lead-up to the wedding and everything on the day felt completely seamless. We’re so glad we booked them and would 100% recommend them to anyone getting married in Ireland. Aoife & Mark" Based in Castlebar, Connaught, Ireland 19th September 2026 Aoife & Mark - Ceremony,Drinks reception

Frequently asked questions

The average cost of hiring jazz pianists is $600, with prices from $200 to $1,850+. Pricing depends on the pianist's experience, set length and whether a suitable instrument is available at the venue. Jazz pianists provide sophisticated, versatile background music suited to a wide range of events from cocktail receptions to private dinners.

The jazz pianists for hire in Australia perform a range of jazz styles including swing, bebop, smooth jazz, boogie-woogie, blues piano and jazz interpretations of popular songs. Many jazz pianists are also accomplished classical and pop players, offering a versatile repertoire.

Events that commonly feature jazz pianists include cocktail receptions, corporate events, hotel lobbies, restaurant dining, wedding receptions and private parties. Jazz piano provides an elegant, sophisticated backdrop that enhances the atmosphere without overpowering the occasion.

Some jazz pianists bring their own digital piano or keyboard, while others may prefer to use an acoustic piano if one is available at the venue. A high-quality digital piano can produce an excellent jazz sound and is easily transported. It is worth discussing instrument arrangements with the pianist.

Many jazz pianists offer flexible formats including solo piano, duo with a vocalist or bass player, and trio or quartet settings. A larger group provides a fuller sound, while a solo pianist suits intimate venues and budgets. To get the best results, discuss options when making an enquiry.

Ceremony, drinks reception and dinner are all common bookings, and one player can cover the whole day where a suitable instrument is in place. Processional and recessional pieces are agreed in advance, and many players will arrange a requested song in a jazz style. Where the ceremony and the reception are in different rooms, allow time to move and set up between them.

Two to three hours is typical, played as sets of around 45 minutes with short breaks between them. Background playing across a dinner service often runs longer and is quoted by the hour. Arranging recorded music for the breaks stops the room falling silent.

Most will take a short list of requests and arrange them in a jazz style, given reasonable notice before the date. Standards and well-known popular songs are straightforward, while an obscure piece may need extra rehearsal time or a fee. Sending the list at the booking stage rather than on the day gives the best result.
