Availability moves fastest at the top of the calendar: peak-season Saturdays and the December party run get taken first, and a saxophonist covering both a ceremony and an evening set will usually hold the whole date rather than half of it. For a date that is already close, it is worth enquiring with more than one act at a time.

A saxophone is one of the easiest live acts to fit into a venue. One musician needs little more than a couple of square metres and a power socket, which makes a sax player workable in rooms that could never take a full band, and in venues with tight load-in access or no stage at all.
Ask the venue two things before confirming: where the nearest socket is, and whether there is a sound limiter. A sax player who brings their own PA still has to plug it in somewhere, and a limiter set low will cut a saxophone before it cuts recorded music, because the instrument is loud at close range and peaks sharply. Outdoors, heat and cold both pull the instrument out of tune, and direct sun on a metal body is genuinely uncomfortable to play, so shade and a dry surface matter more than a stage does. Drinks receptions on a lawn or terrace work well as long as the act has somewhere to stand that will not sink or soak.
Most saxophonists work from a backing track library rather than sheet music, so a request has to exist as a track before it can be played. Three to four weeks is a reasonable lead time for something learned specially, and a first dance or processional is worth confirming earlier still. Send a running order rather than a start time: an act that knows when speeches finish and when the dance floor opens will place its sets around them, instead of playing through the moments people are meant to be listening to.
Rates for saxophonists in Rye run from £120 to £850+, with typical bookings around £340. Check what the figure covers before comparing quotes: PA and setup are usually included, travel may or may not be, and an overtime rate for running past the agreed finish is worth agreeing in writing rather than on the night. Most acts take a deposit to hold the date, with the balance due close to the event, and short notice tends to cost more rather than less, since a free Saturday in peak season is a date someone else has already turned down.

"Dirk was fabulous! From the moment we contacted him he couldn’t have been more helpful. It was fairly short notice but lucky for us Dirk was available. The communication was excellent including warning us about traffic problems that could have caused our guests a problem. I really stage know what to expect but Dirk exceeded our expectations and all the guests loved his set. It was a perfect mix of songs and really set the right tone. Thank you so much for making our daughters wedding extra special!"

SaxoPhoney Michael
"Michael was amazing, and there was soooo much choice to choose from! It was smooth from the get go, from booking Michael to then all the communication etc.. All of our wedding guests and us really really enjoyed the music, we had so many people tell us how amazing it was and how it just set the tone for after our ceremony whilst having drinks outside listening to the music. I am soooo sooo glad I came across Michael and picked him to play at our wedding. Thank you so much! We highly recommend Michael! 5 stars! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️"
jamiesaxophone - weddings, events & more
"Where to start! My daughter’s wedding vision included a saxophonist. Unfortunately as the bookings were made for everything, this was seen as a luxury and got pushed further down the list and then wasn’t going to happen.
Fast forward to two weeks before the wedding and I saw a wedding post on facebook and Jamie’s name was mentioned numerous times.
The stars aligned and I was exceptionally lucky Jamie was available . The absolute best decision I made! Jamie answered quickly to every message ( I sent many!), was so lovely and was absolutely awesome on the day. The playlist was perfect and Jamie brought such a great vibe. Everyone is still talking about him! Even in videos that we’ve posted people are commenting ‘who is he?’ ‘This is incredible’
My advice put Jamie at the top of your wedding list, or any party list, you won’t regret it! The only thing I do regret is not booking him for longer as it went so fast.
Jamie you are incredibly talented and we are so grateful that we got to meet you and dance along with you!
You’re calm, very cool, charming and exceptional!!!! You were an absolute highlight of the day, I have watched the videos of you and everyone so many times as it’s just such a natural, happy time that you couldn’t plan.
I can’t wait for my next daughter’s wedding you are a definite!!!!"
