Saxophonist Ruud de Vries is a well-known and experienced saxophonist from the Netherlands and a pioneer in playing with DJ music such as pop, dance, latin and house. He is known for his unique and powerful "big fat" saxophone sound that touches the hearts of people of all ages and for his easy-going attitude towards people in general. Ruud can be booked as a solo saxophonist alongside a DJ, but you can also book Ruud as a combined DJ and saxophonist. This means that he will play the DJ's music and also play the saxophone. Ruud is preferred to enhance dance parties, weddings, private parties or corporate events, but can also be booked to play lounge background music at networking events for example.

I must be able to connect my DJ & Sax equipment to the existing equipment on the location. I usually connect to the DJ-mixer with the red/white rca connectors. I will bring the cable.
I need to know if the amplification of the venue is suitable to do a 'sax & DJ' performance. On bigger stages where I can not perform with my saxophone in front of the sound system, I need a monitor speaker.
In Netherlands, yes (for small parties about 80 people). In other countries, No.
Yes.
The North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands is memorable of course. But I will enjoy a performance in any small venue just as much. I have worked in so many venues I can not mention one 'best'. The best gig is always the one where I feel a true connection with the audience, and luckily I have had many of these.
I enjoy events the best where people want to have a good time with louder dancable music so I can give everything I got to give a striking performance that will be heart felt. This can be a club, a wediing, or in general, a dance party!
I am experienced in jazz, blues and funky music but have developed myself in 25 years to be a 'DJ-saxophonist' that makes a difference on the dance floor with a sound that I can call my own. I was one of Holland's first saxophonists that collaborated with DJ's and made it become a mainstream phenomenon.
There are so many great artists, from the past and present. I do not have a favourite. Saxophone soundwise I have been influenced heavily by Hans Dulfer (the father of Candy) and a lot of old school tenor saxophonists like Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, Willis Jackson and many other players alike. I have taken their strong sax sound into the new musical era.
I can be booked for a set of 1, 2 , 3 or 4 hours. It will depend on the type of event and wishes of the customer.
Typically, when I am booked for 1 hour I will play all the time. When I am booked for 2, 3, or 4 hours I will play 1 or 2 songs, then pause a while, play again and so on.
Yes.
When they book me as a DJ/saxophonist they do have a say in the DJ-songs, but for the saxophone performances I will stick merely to my own choices.
Many previous clients have rewarded my performances with very positive reviews. I had no negative reviews ever.
