Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Our technical requirements are simple. We require a level performance area with access to a standard 13-amp power supply within a reasonable distance of the performance space.

We provide our own professional PA system, lighting and all necessary sound equipment for most events. Larger venues or outdoor performances may require additional equipment, which can be discussed during the booking process.

For outdoor events, a suitable covered, dry performance area is essential to protect both the musicians and equipment from rain, direct sunlight and adverse weather.

We normally require around 60 minutes to set up and carry out a sound check before guests arrive, together with suitable access for loading and unloading equipment.

What information do you require about a venue?

To help everything run smoothly, we ask for a few details about your venue, including the full address, performance location, access for loading and unloading, parking arrangements, and the approximate performance space available.

We also appreciate knowing your event schedule, the expected number of guests, whether the event is indoors or outdoors, and if there are any venue sound limiters, noise restrictions or finish times. If your venue has any specific supplier requirements, we're always happy to work with them in advance to ensure a seamless performance.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes. We provide a professional PA system and lighting suitable for the vast majority of weddings, parties and corporate events. All equipment is PAT tested, and we carry full Public Liability Insurance for complete peace of mind.

Our sound system is tailored to suit your venue and guest numbers, ensuring excellent sound quality without being overpowering. For exceptionally large venues or outdoor events, additional production can be arranged if required.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. We can provide a professionally managed Spotify/DJ service before the performance, during our breaks and after the live music, keeping the atmosphere flowing seamlessly throughout your event.

You're welcome to provide your own playlist, or we can create a varied mix to suit the occasion. This is available as an optional extra or as part of our Ultimate Wedding Entertainment package.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

It's almost impossible to choose just one! We've been fortunate to perform at more than 1,000 weddings and events across Scotland and internationally, from castles and luxury hotels to festivals and corporate celebrations.

Some of our biggest highlights include performing at T in the Park, entertaining audiences at Aberdeen's Music Hall, and taking Scottish ceilidh music overseas for weddings in Italy, Germany, Norway, Spain, Ireland and Latvia.

If we had to pick a favourite, it would probably be one of our wedding celebrations where every single guest, from children to grandparents and visitors from around the world, filled the dance floor together. That's what makes a ceilidh so special. Watching complete strangers laugh, dance and become lifelong friends over the course of an evening is exactly why we love what we do.

As for venues, Scotland is blessed with incredible locations. We've had the privilege of performing in magnificent castles, historic country houses, luxury hotels a

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings are our favourite events to perform at. There's something truly special about bringing together family and friends of all ages, many of whom have never met before, and watching them share the dance floor together. A great ceilidh breaks the ice like nothing else and creates unforgettable memories from the very first dance.

That said, we also love corporate events, festivals and private parties. Whether it's 40 guests or 400, our goal is always the same: fill the dance floor, keep everyone involved, and make sure people leave saying, "That was the best night we've had in years!"

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Music has been my full-time profession for over 20 years, but my journey began much earlier. I started playing the accordion as a teenager and quickly discovered a love of performing. After years of playing at local events, I founded Iron Broo to bring high-quality live Scottish music and ceilidh entertainment to weddings, corporate events and celebrations across Scotland.

Since then, we've performed at more than 1,000 weddings and events, as well as festivals, concerts and international engagements throughout Europe. Every performance has helped shape what we do today: combining exceptional musicianship with friendly, professional service and expert dance calling to create an unforgettable experience for every audience.

Even after all these years, I still love seeing a room full of people laughing, dancing and making memories together. That's what inspires us to give every event the same energy and commitment, whether we're playing for 40 guests or 400.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My musical influences are a blend of traditional Scottish and Irish musicians, alongside artists renowned for their songwriting and live performances. Growing up, I spent countless hours listening to Foster & Allen, and I still regard Mick Foster as one of my favourite accordion players. His playing on The Bluebell Polka had a huge influence on me as a young musician and inspired me to develop my own style on the accordion.

I've also always admired the music of Jimmy Shand and Phil Cunningham. Beyond music, I've always drawn inspiration from Robert Burns, whose songs and poetry capture the humour, warmth and spirit of Scotland. More recently, I've loved how The Proclaimers have continued that tradition by writing songs that celebrate Scottish identity while connecting with audiences around the world.

Outside the traditional music scene, artists such as Mark Knopfler, The Eagles and Queen have inspired me with their songwriting, musicianship and unforgettable live performances.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We normally require around **60–90 minutes** to set up and carry out a sound check before guests arrive, depending on the size of the band and the venue.

Our standard evening performance is **up to four hours**, typically from **8:00 pm until midnight**, with live ceilidh sets, a short break duing the buffet and optional  background music to keep the atmosphere going. We can also provide ceremony music, drinks reception entertainment, afternoon performances and a professionally managed DJ service to create a bespoke package for your event.

We're always happy to work around your schedule and liaise directly with your venue to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely! We love performing outdoors and have played at everything from garden weddings and festival stages to castle grounds and Highland celebrations.

For amplified performances, we simply require a suitable covered performance area with protection from rain, direct sunlight and strong winds, along with access to a standard power supply. These measures protect both our musicians and professional equipment while ensuring we can deliver the best possible performance.

For acoustic performances, such as wedding ceremonies or drinks receptions, we don't require electricity at all. If the weather is kind, we're even happy to wander among your guests as we play, creating a relaxed, interactive atmosphere that's perfect for outdoor celebrations.

If you're planning an outdoor event, we're always happy to discuss the logistics with you and your venue to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely! Every event is unique, and we're always happy to tailor our performance to suit your preferences. If there are particular ceilidh dances, Scottish songs or special requests you'd like included, we'll do our very best to accommodate them.

That said, after performing at more than 1,000 weddings and events, we've learned what keeps a dance floor full. We're always happy to use our experience to guide the flow of the evening, reading the room and choosing the right dances and music to suit your guests.

If there's a special song you'd like us to learn for your ceremony, first dance or another memorable moment, please let us know well in advance and we'll be delighted to discuss it.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

The words we hear most often are fun, professional, energetic and memorable.

Clients regularly tell us that we had guests on the dance floor who never normally dance, and that our friendly, clear dance calling made everyone feel confident from the very first ceilidh. Many also comment on how we keep the evening flowing seamlessly, with no awkward pauses, and how our musicianship, humour and enthusiasm create a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.

Perhaps the compliment we're proudest of is hearing couples say, "Our guests are still talking about the ceilidh years later." For us, that's the greatest measure of a successful performance.

Are there additional travel costs?

Travel throughout much of Northeast Scotland is included in our quotation. For events further afield, overseas performances or venues requiring ferries, flights or overnight accommodation, any additional travel costs will always be discussed and agreed in advance. We believe in transparent pricing, so there are never any hidden charges.
