I like an area of 8X12 for staging plus an area for two speakers. If it is a smaller area I can just use one speaker. I need one parking space as close as possible to setup area. 2 good normal household power outlets usually works fine, I do have a tester so it does need to be good solid power and it needs to be somewhat close to the staging area (at least within 25 feet.) I've never had a problem unless the house has homemade features or is older than about 1980.
Need to know if it's indoors or outdoors and if it's covered outdoors. I am happy to do all outdoor parties if weather permits and if there is a backup plan due to rain or extreme temperatures. I can handle between 55 and 90 degrees but I don't think your party will work well unless it's between 60 and 85. I like to know if the guests are present during load in, load in can look messy so please understand that. I can go around people but I still need room to set equipment down in front of the staging area. If there are stairs I need to know and if there are a lot of stairs load in may require more than the one helper I use. If there is an elevator I will need to allow extra time for load in. In addition if load in is far away from staging area I also need to allow extra setup time.
I am completely self contained, I bring PA and lights along with a backing video screen. I also have a helper.
I can run Spotify between sets playing background music or your requests.
The most fun Beach Boys show was with a BBs tribute full band down in south Florida, the people were unbelievably fun. The most fun show I ever did was opening for America at Stone Mountain Park in Georgia in a variety band. The crowd was very receptive and very large and the venue was magnificent with Stone Mountain as a backdrop.
I like the kind of event where I play the kind of music the audience is looking forward to. A Beach Boys show is going to fit well with active older adults, this is the kind of audience I know best and can work with best.
I've been in the music business for decades. I've done everything from managing music stores to wedding DJ (many weddings,) running Karaoke to running sound for larger bands. Through it all I've always played live music as a solo, duo and band. I enjoy solo work the most as it allows me to focus on the audience with my whole attention.
Beach Boys, Jan and Dean are obvious but 60s music in general has a lot of influence.
Yes, if the party is going to last longer than 1 and 1/2 hours I can play music from other beach themed artists or classic dance songs. My repertoire is large enough to cover most kinds of events. I have included some of those songs on my song list here on Gig Heaven.
I like to start setup at least 2 hours ahead of time. My setup is rather complex and I like to have a little time to de-stress about setup before I start. However, I can set up quickly if necessary. Also, I have a helper with me who usually stays rather invisible to the client.
My typical show is 1 1/2 hours with no break. I can play longer but I will need a break and will need play songs by similar artists.
Yes, a cover is preferred but not required. If it's the middle of summer and in the middle of the day I can handle it but a cover really helps. A flat level surface is important for safety and power needs to be within 25 feet.
I'm glad to arrange my set to your order but adding new songs is not always possible. The arrangements of Beach Boys songs are very complex and can take a full day or perhaps two full days to put together. If you want a song not on my song list I would probably have to charge extra according to how complex the song is.
They comment that they like that I interact with the audience.
Yes! I can play an hour Jimmy Buffett show that includes his well known songs and well known songs Jimmy covered like "Southern Cross" and "Brown Eyed Girl."
I have played many many venues but not as a Beach Boys single act. I have played as a variety single act for years but the venues I played wouldn't know me for playing Beach Boys. As I am new to doing this act as a single act (I have played in a Beach Boys full band for many shows) I wouldn't want to misrepresent myself as having played venues in this capacity. I will say I have played all my Beach Boys songs during my variety show so the act is well tested.
