About / Biography

Páramo is a cinematic instrumental guitar duo created for couples and hosts who want their celebration to feel like a place, not just a playlist. Warm, reverb-soaked new-western and surf-tinged guitars in the spirit of Hermanos Gutiérrez meet the great Latin American songbook — cumbia, boleros and Andean melodies — alongside beloved pop and soul classics reimagined as instrumentals.

The project is led by Ernesto Mercado, a professional guitarist, composer, arranger and music producer with more than 20 years on stage and in the studio. Páramo brings concert-level musicianship to weddings, ceremonies, cocktail hours, corporate functions and refined private celebrations.

The experience

  • A refined, uninterrupted live soundtrack that sets the mood from guests' arrival through dinner and drinks
  • Atmospheric and tasteful — music that elevates the room while letting conversation breathe
  • Familiar songs your guests will recognise, reworked into something far more memorable than a playlist
  • A polished, reliable act that arrives early, sound-checks properly and treats your timeline as its own

What's included

  • Two accomplished musicians (guitar-led duo) plus a dedicated audio engineer
  • Full professional PA and sound system, mixed live for a clean, warm sound in any space
  • 90-minute live sets, with flexible set lengths and structure to fit your schedule
  • A curated repertoire spanning new-western and surf instrumentals, cumbia, boleros, Latin American classics and reimagined pop and soul favourites

Flexible line-ups

Beyond the signature duo, the ensemble can scale for larger celebrations — including a jazz quartet and a five-piece French gypsy-jazz (manouche) ensemble for hosts who want jazz standards, bossa nova or chanson — so the sound always fits the size and feel of your day.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

For the duo we need a level performance area of roughly 2 x 2 metres (more for larger line-ups), a covered or shaded spot if the event is outdoors, and one standard power socket within reach of the stage. We bring our own PA in Gdl, instruments and cabling, so nothing else is required. If you'd prefer us to run through the venue's in-house sound system, just let us know in advance.

What information do you require about a venue?

Ahead of the event we like to know the venue name and address, load-in access (any stairs or long carries), where we will be performing, the timeline for the day, whether the performance is indoors or outdoors, and whether there is a sound limiter or noise restriction in place. This lets us arrive fully prepared and set up smoothly and on time.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes. We bring a professional PA system suited to the size of the room, operated live by our own sound engineer for a clean, warm mix. Simple ambient stage lighting can be provided on request. For very large or production-heavy events we are happy to coordinate with the venue's or your production team's system.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. We can play curated background music through our PA before we begin, between sets and after we finish, so there is a seamless soundtrack throughout your event. Just let us know the mood or style you would like for those moments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Some of our most memorable performances have been intimate destination weddings on the Mexican coast — playing as the sun goes down while a room full of guests falls quiet to listen. Boutique venues, courtyards and open-air terraces suit our sound best: anywhere the music can breathe and become part of the atmosphere rather than sit in the background.

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings and intimate celebrations. There is something special about setting the tone for a ceremony and then easing guests into a cocktail hour with warm, atmospheric guitar. We love events where the hosts genuinely care about the music and want a live sound with character rather than a generic playlist.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Páramo is led by Ernesto Mercado, a professional guitarist, composer and producer with more than 20 years of experience across jazz, contemporary and world music. Alongside live performance he works as an arranger and music director, and has played everything from concert stages and festivals to weddings, private events and studio sessions. That range means we can read a room and shape the music to the moment.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Our sound draws on artists like Hermanos Gutiérrez. We are drawn to music that is cinematic and atmospheric, where mood and space matter as much as the notes — and that shapes everything from our repertoire to the way we build a live set.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We usually arrive around 2 hours before we play to load in and sound-check calmly (more for large or complex events). Our standard is a 90-minute performance, which we can split into two or three shorter sets to fit your timeline — for example a ceremony set followed by a cocktail hour. We are flexible on set lengths and timings and build the schedule around your day.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely — outdoor ceremonies and terraces are some of our favourite settings. For open-air events we simply ask for a covered or shaded performance spot to protect the instruments and equipment, a flat and stable surface, and a power supply within reach. If rain is a possibility, a backup covered area is always a good idea.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Yes, absolutely! While we have a carefully curated repertoire, clients are more than welcome to request a couple of special songs.

As long as the requests fit our style and musical setup, and we receive them at least one month in advance so we have enough time to arrange and rehearse them properly, we’re happy to make it happen!

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Guests most often describe the music as elegant, warm and atmospheric — a live sound that sets the mood without overpowering conversation. Hosts tell us it made their event feel special and personal, and that having real musicians rather than a playlist was one of the details their guests remembered most.
