About / Biography

Paul offers a range of line-ups, from a duo with guitar or keyboard, with an option to add vocals, all the way up to a full band. Each performance is uniquely tailored to your tasted and those of your guests.

Following a music degree at Durham University, Paul has written and performed music for BBC Radio, played in ceilidh bands, directed choirs, and runs a monthly jazz jam. He's also launched a sax quartet and a jazz quintet, and always works hard to give every occasion the music it needs to make memories.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Depending on the line-up, we need a dry, safe and warm space to play in of around 5mx3m. We also need a couple of 13amp sockets and space to park nearby.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need to know any specific access requirements, and if there is a sound limiter.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We bring all sound equipment needed, and a simple lighting setup.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We're happy to play music from Spotify over our PA once we're set up and in the break between sets. We can choose the music, or you can send us a playlist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I've performed at the O2 in London, and at the Royal Albert Hall, but playing in my local theatre beats that really - it's such a lovely space and there's often people there I know.

What's your favourite type of event?

I most enjoy small intimate gigs. I can remember playing some of my own arrangements at the Hitchin Jazz Jam one Christmas and the sense of joy and fun in the room was amazing.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I did a music degree at Durham University, and combined playing in various bands with a career in BBC Radio. I'm now focussin on the music full time, running a jazz jam, and sax quartet and a jazz quintet.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

The list is quite varied. I love the style of jazz players from the 50s and 60s like Miles Davis and Hank Mobley. I love the songwriting and performing ability of people like KT Tunstall and Suzanne Vega. And the sheer joy of pop bands like The Feeling.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We typically allow 30-50 minutes to set up and perform 2x45' sets across two hours.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, so long as we have some shelter/shade and a power supply

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We're happy to be guided by the client in what we play, generally it's a case of picking from our repertoire.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

The feedback we generally get is 'You were amazing, thanks so much for making our day!' We really work hard to give the best we can and adapt on the day.
