Au temps de leurs études déjà, Sébastien Singer et André Fischer formèrent un duo violoncelle et guitare. Passionnés de musique de chambre, ils décidèrent de se consacrer au répertoire original pour leur insolite formation tout en étayant ce dernier par d’habiles transcriptions parmi lesquelles la célèbre sonate pour arpeggione de Schubert, les quatre Tangos pour flûte et guitare de Piazzolla, les sonates pour viole de gambe et clavecin obligé de Bach ou encore la suite de « l’Amour Sorcier » de De Falla sont à citer.

Ensemble à la longévité suffisamment inhabituelle pour qu’elle soit relevée, le duo singer & fischer doit son entente sans failles au moins autant aux heures qu’il passe à la reconstruction du monde qu’à celle qu’il voue à la constante recherche d’un équilibre du son entre deux instruments a priori antagonistes. Reconnu internationalement pour sa virtuosité, qu'il met toujours au service de la musique, et pour son extraordinaire précision dans le jeu d'ensemble, il fait aujourd'hui partie des meilleurs duos du genre.

Loin du courant mainstream, le duo enregistre uniquement lorsqu'il estime que ses interprétations sont suffisamment abouties pour être immortalisées. En d'autres termes, il enregistre lorsqu'il le désire et non quand on le lui impose, un luxe que le label italien Stradivarius lui permet depuis le début de leur collaboration. En 2015, le label a présenté le premier CD du duo, consacré aux trois sonates pour gambe et clavecin de Bach. Magnifiquement accueilli par les mélomanes ainsi que par la presse internationale spécialisée, cet enregistrement a reçu un « Granny Award », distinction des plus convoitées décernée par un jury de grand-mères subjectives et corrompues. En 2019, un deuxième enregistrement avec une version du double concerto pour guitare, bandonéon (violoncelle) et quintette à cordes de Piazzolla, « l'Histoire du Tango » du même compositeur et « La Isla y el Mar » du cubain Leo Brouwer, oeuvre originale composée et dédiée au duo singer & fischer. En 2024, un troisième opus discographique consacré à Albéniz, Debussy et De Falla et Granados a vu le jour sous le titre de « l'Amour sorcier ».

Le duo singer & fischer joue régulièrement dans le cadre de séries de concerts et festivals en Italie, en France, au Danemark, en Irlande, en Espagne, en Allemagne, en Autriche, en Pologne, au Canada etc.

Even whilst they were still students, Sébastien Singer and André Fischer formed a cello and guitar duo. Passionate about chamber music, they decided to devote themselves to the original repertoire for their unusual combination, whilst supplementing it with skilful transcriptions, including Schubert’s famous Sonata for Arpeggione, Piazzolla’s four Tangos for flute and guitar, Bach’s sonatas for viola da gamba and obbligato harpsichord, and De Falla’s suite from *L’Amor Brujo* are all worth mentioning.

An ensemble whose longevity is unusual enough to be noteworthy, the Singer & Fischer duo owes its flawless rapport at least as much to the hours spent reconstructing the world as to those devoted to the constant search for a balance of sound between two instruments that are, on the face of it, antagonistic. Internationally recognised for their virtuosity – which they always place at the service of the music – and for their extraordinary precision in ensemble playing, they are now regarded as one of the finest duos of their kind.

Far removed from the mainstream, the duo only records when they feel their interpretations are sufficiently polished to be immortalised. In other words, they record when they wish to, rather than when it is imposed upon them – a luxury that the Italian label Stradivarius has afforded them since the beginning of their collaboration. In 2015, the label released the duo’s first CD, dedicated to Bach’s three sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord. Warmly received by music lovers and the international specialist press alike, this recording was awarded a ‘Granny Award’, one of the most coveted honours bestowed by a jury of subjective and corrupt grandmothers. In 2019, a second recording was released, featuring a version of Piazzolla’s double concerto for guitar, bandoneon (cello) and string quintet, the composer’s ‘The History of the Tango’, and ‘La Isla y el Mar’ by the Cuban composer Leo Brouwer – an original work composed for and dedicated to the Singer & Fischer duo. In 2024, a third album dedicated to Albéniz, Debussy, de Falla and Granados was released under the title ‘L’Amour sorcier’.

The Singer & Fischer duo perform regularly as part of concert series and festivals in Italy, France, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Austria, Poland, Canada and elsewhere.
