About / Biography

Starting out life as a busking trio in 2010, the Swing Ninjas are one-of-a-kind. Blending vocal harmonies and a mix of New Orleans' swing and vintage UK jazz (with a modern musical flair), this Brighton (UK) based band provides an authentic, up-to-date approach to the sound of a raucous 1930s band to all stages and parties that can fit them on. Their USP is the group vocals with isn't too saccharine - very unusual and something quite special.

With over 80 million combines YouTube views, 2 original albums and 4 albums of classic US-UK jazz/swing, it’s little wonder this fun-loving, charming and soulful group play over 150 shows a year!

100 year-old music is given a breathe of fresh air by the highly skilled energetic performance, group vocal harmonies, immaculate dress and tongue-in-cheek charm of the band. This is not stagnant swing and jazz as you know it – the sweat and passion is real.

The band can perform in various sizes – the smaller groups perfect for afternoon or evening drinks, roaming or parading, serenading from table to table, with the bigger band suiting larger events or where dancing is encouraged. Trio to 10-piece band available – comprising of saxes and brass, guitar, double bass, piano, drums and group vocal harmonies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

So many to choose from! Playing for a crowd of 10 000 in Groningen in Holland was an amazing experience. Best venue must have been the Hotel Paradiso in Portofino, Italy - such timeless elegance.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love big stage events, but a small intimate party can be wonderfully warm, and we can can really take the listener on a journey with us.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We have all been musicians for over 30 years - bringing influence from a variety of genres which adds to our eclectic sound. We started the band as a trio busking in the streets of Brighton - but soon got bookings worldwide.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

The music of New Orleans is our passion - Louis Armstrong, Professor Longhair, Hot 8 Brass Band - moving to Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Django Rheinhardt, Ella Fitzgerald - the list continues ad infinitum !

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We allow 1 hour setup time, performance is normally 2x45 mins. All within a on-site 4 hour window.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Very! We roam, parade, serenade while lovely guests sip champagne.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We love to chat over set options - however we prefer to manage and adapt our set list on the day depending on the mood or vibe of the day. Very happy to direct the set in a certain way though.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Joyous, skilled, warm, soundtrack - "you took me back to New Orleans!"

Are you able to parade or roam?

Yes! Our smaller bands are best for roaming - so 3/4 piece, and then 5/6 piece for parades and 6/7 piece for stage shows.

Do you have female vocalists?

Yes! We work with the Speakeasy Three (see video - 31Million views and counting!) and other female jazz singers - all amazing!
