Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Access to a plug point and a chair without arms (but not a bar stool) is required, as well as a performance area of 2m x 2m. If the performance area is outside, a shaded area, protected from adverse weather is required.

What information do you require about a venue?

Who is the person of contact upon arrival.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I supply my own sound equipment. It consists of two amplifiers. One is battery powered and has a line out that can be connected to a sound system of the venue if so required. My sound equipment is suitable for up to 50 guests.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, but the organisers can connect to my amplifiers via bluetooth, if they wish to play their own music during breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

My best gigs are when I have matched the brides entrance walk down the isle perfectly with my music, and the most scenic and spectacular venues I have performed at are Tintswalo Atlantic in Hout Bay and Cellars Hohenort in Constantia.

What's your favourite type of event?

I love weddings, but also creating a great atmosphere at a restaurant or bar is good fun too.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started performing Classical guitar in restaurants and hotels around Cape Town in the early 2000's. I got these gigs by walking to venues, introducing myself and thereby got a few regular slots performing during the week. I expanded into performing at weddings and events by adding more styles to my repertoire, including more well known love songs for weddings, and groovy pop songs for a more casual atmosphere.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I am a Classical Guitarist at heart, and admire any performer who can play with expertise, emotion and mastery. That being said, a good bassline is always a joy and just brings a smile to my face. A genre that expresses both of these elements would be Latin Jazz, and performers like Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra have that poise, passion and precision.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

My set up is usually done within 15 min, but I always give myself 45 min, so that any possible problems can be dealt with. I normally perform either two 45 min sets, or two hour sets, with a short break, or the wedding ceremony in between.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am happy to perform outside if there is shade provided and if there is no risk of damage to my equipment from adverse weather.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I have an extensive repertoire list, but am happy to learn an extra song for the wedding couple if they want something specific for their entrance music, with the proviso that I have enough prior notice to prepare the song.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Perfect fit.
