Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

The harp is a big heavy instrument that moves on wheels. As such it requires nearby parking and good access. As rule of thumb, if a venue has good disabled access, then it is also ok for a harp. Some steps are negotiable provided help is provided.

What information do you require about a venue?

I need to know whether a venue has good access, and what the parking situation is like.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

The harp is fully acoustic and does not need any additional amplification.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No, but my breaks to not tend to be long.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I think my best gig would probably be playing in Italy, and various outdoor venues for a production of Robin Holloway's Nausicaa. Best venue is a tricky one to answer, but I have a special fondness for venues such as Pendennis Castle or Polhawn Fort - both such wonderful settings!

What's your favourite type of event?

Probably weddings - everyone is happy!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been playing in public since I was a kid, but I think my first paid gigs were probably in the sixth form. I started playing professionally after university, over ten years ago.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Really hard question to answer! Sometimes it's Bach, sometimes it's Britten, sometimes it's the Beatles. But mostly it is whatever piece I am playing at any given moment.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I aim to arrive an hour in advance to get set up. Thereafter performance times are entirely flexible.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am happy to play outside on a level surface, provided it is dry and not too windy. If sunny, then I would need shade if playing outside for an extended time.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients are welcome to choose some pieces from my repertoire, and I am happy to discuss any additional requests.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Words like "beautiful" and "magical" and "perfect for the occasion" tend to get used.
