Folk Singers for Hire in Kitchener

The folk singers for hire perform traditional folk, contemporary folk, Celtic, acoustic singer-songwriter material and folk-influenced popular music. Many folk singers accompany themselves on guitar, banjo or other acoustic instruments.

Hiring folk singers is ideal for weddings, pub and bar events, festivals, private parties, corporate dinners and intimate gatherings. The acoustic, storytelling style of folk music creates a warm, personal atmosphere that suits a wide range of settings.

Many folk singers offer flexible performance options, from solo acoustic sets to performances with additional musicians such as a guitarist, fiddle player or small ensemble. It is worth discussing line-up options with the singer when requesting a quote.

For small, intimate venues, many folk singers can perform without amplification. For larger spaces or outdoor events, a small PA system is usually needed. Most folk singers bring their own amplification equipment. It is worth confirming the setup with the singer based on the venue.

Many are writers as well as performers and will mix their own songs with traditional material and familiar covers. The balance is usually the booker's choice and most are happy to lean either way. For an event where guests should recognise what they hear, say so, because a set of entirely new songs makes for a different evening.

Singalong choruses are part of the tradition and many performers use them deliberately, choosing songs a room can pick up inside a verse. How far it goes depends on the crowd and the point in the evening, and a good performer reads that rather than forcing it. Events wanting a quieter listening set should say so, as the same singer can do either.

A live folk musician working a pub or bar usually plays two or three shorter sets across an evening rather than one continuous performance, with an audience that comes and goes. The setup is lighter, since there is rarely a stage and the corner of a room is the normal spot. Rates for this work differ from function bookings, so it is worth saying which kind of event it is when enquiring.
