Photo of Rob Ryan Acoustic Entertainment Rob Ryan Acoustic Entertainment "Rob was terrific! Engaged EVERYONE at the event. Very professional and funny. Would definitely recommend!" Based in Land O' Lakes, Florida Dana Olmsted - Labor Day Party Photo of Ray and Kay Ray and Kay "Ray and Kay were great. They arrived early and took the time and care to set up to where they weren't too loud or intrusive. I know it can be a delicate and tricky balance for the musicians to estimate whether or not they're overpowering an audience that wants to socialize yet stay present enough to not fade into the background. They clearly have the experience to understand dynamics and are really good at reading a room. It's nice to be accommodating, but also refreshing to see a musical act sense when a night is wrapping up. We event directors want to go home at some point, too! Ray and Kay were tight, professional and friendly. Worth hiring for any event." Based in Orlando, Florida Randy (Little Ferry, NJ) - Cocktail Reception Photo of Makaio Makaio "This review is LONG over due as Makio absolutely MADE our cocktail reception complete. I had visions of a lounge atmosphere and wanted it to be a surprise for the guests. Mak played along the entire time to the point of actually getting some silverware for one of our guests before we announced "does anyone else want to say anything" and he seamlessly broke out into my favorite standard "The Way You Look Tonight". He incorporated all our favorites as well as our guests requests. He even remembered I had some Parrotheads in the room and threw in some Buffet :) all this then drove back to the city from Indiana in a snow storm. I love his sound and I swear he sang for 3 hours straight. Honored a clip from our event is on his web page. We loved him. Book him, you will not be disappointed." His Nashville recorded albums are as good as anybody's out there. His music is being played on radio stations across the country." Frequently asked questions

The average cost of hiring folk singers is $330, with prices from $110 to $1,150+. Pricing depends on the singer's experience, performance duration and whether they perform with a guitar, other instruments or backing tracks. Folk singers suit a range of settings from intimate acoustic performances to larger outdoor events.

The folk singers for hire perform traditional folk, contemporary folk, Celtic, acoustic singer-songwriter material and folk-influenced popular music. Many folk singers accompany themselves on guitar, banjo or other acoustic instruments.

Hiring folk singers is ideal for weddings, pub and bar events, festivals, private parties, corporate dinners and intimate gatherings. The acoustic, storytelling style of folk music creates a warm, personal atmosphere that suits a wide range of settings.

Many folk singers offer flexible performance options, from solo acoustic sets to performances with additional musicians such as a guitarist, fiddle player or small ensemble. It is worth discussing line-up options with the singer when requesting a quote.

For small, intimate venues, many folk singers can perform without amplification. For larger spaces or outdoor events, a small PA system is usually needed. Most folk singers bring their own amplification equipment. It is worth confirming the setup with the singer based on the venue.

Many are writers as well as performers and will mix their own songs with traditional material and familiar covers. The balance is usually the booker's choice and most are happy to lean either way. For an event where guests should recognise what they hear, say so, because a set of entirely new songs makes for a different evening.

Singalong choruses are part of the tradition and many performers use them deliberately, choosing songs a room can pick up inside a verse. How far it goes depends on the crowd and the point in the evening, and a good performer reads that rather than forcing it. Events wanting a quieter listening set should say so, as the same singer can do either.

A live folk musician working a pub or bar usually plays two or three shorter sets across an evening rather than one continuous performance, with an audience that comes and goes. The setup is lighter, since there is rarely a stage and the corner of a room is the normal spot. Rates for this work differ from function bookings, so it is worth saying which kind of event it is when enquiring.
