Photo of The Graduates The Graduates "We recently hired The Graduates for our corporate event to provide jazz music during our cocktail event. Mike was super helpful easy to deal with in the lead up to the event, and the band were fantastic on the night and our guests loved the music! Highly recommended, we will definitely be using them for our next event." The guys did a fantastic job and the feedback from the audience was great. Thanks for your help in organizing everything." Based in Sydney, New South Wales Kristen Plummer - Corporate Event Photo of Blue Velvet Jazz Blue Velvet Jazz "“Just a quick email to thank you for the wonderful performance you gave at Joy’s graduation party. Your band was one element of a great night, but Blue Velvet more than anything added a sophisticated atmosphere. Your repertoire was great and you always played at an appropriate level. You were punctual, reliable and did exactly what what we agreed. Very professional all round and most importantly, enjoyable. We couldn’t be more pleased. Please pass our thanks on to the other members of the band. If you ever need a good word from a satisfied client to get a gig, feel free to let me know. I’d be happy to oblige.” — Daniel K" Based in Sydney, New South Wales Daniel - Private Party Photo of The Jazz Kings Australia The Jazz Kings Australia "Friday 24th November 2023 - The Jazz Kings - Tweed Valley Jazz and Blues A superb gig to bring a fitting close to a year of top-flight music. ‘The Jazz Kings’ left us in no doubt why they are currently rated among the top outfits on the North Coast. Each of them – Nicole Parker-Brown on vocals, Peter Uppman on vocals and trumpet (sometimes almost at the same time), Gordon Matheson on guitar, Col Atkinson on bass and yet more vocals, and Jose McLaughlin on keyboards – is an accomplished performer in their own right, and in combination they are a musical powerhouse to be reckoned with. It was an evening of eclectic mix, from popular jazz standards, through blues arrangements that will be appearing on their latest album, to occasional dips into the classical realms, and a few nostalgic ‘pop’ reminiscences. Among the favourites were their own arrangements of evergreens such as ‘Night and Day,’ ‘All Of Me’, ‘Misty’, ‘Georgia On My Mind’ and ‘Making Whoopee’. Jose even gave a nod towards his earlier career as keyboard player and musical director of ‘Gerry and the Pacemakers’ with his updated arrangements of ‘Ferry Cross the Mersey’ and ‘Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying’. All in all, a great end to 2023, and the Club Committee took time at the end to wish all members and visitors a happy and safe Xmas and a prosperous New Year. If it promises music of the same quality as this past year, then we’ll have no complaints." Based in Gold Coast, Queensland Tweed Valley Jazz and Blues - Show Photo of Girl Friday Girl Friday "We listen to a lot of live music and Girl Friday are one of our favourite bands, Michelle and the boys are ultimate professionals, their music ranges from swing, to blues, Latin and they make a lot of popular music their own. We love doing their Friday night Sun Set Cruises Jazz cruise out of Mooloolaba and we often catch their Eat Street, Toowoomba and Warwick 'Jumpers and Jazz' gigs. Great band to listen and dance to!" Frequently asked questions

The average price for swing bands on Gig Heaven is $1,300, with rates from $320 to $4,000+. Cost varies based on the number of musicians, set length and the style of swing. Swing bands range from intimate jazz combos to large orchestras, and the size of the ensemble is the primary factor in pricing.

The swing bands for hire perform swing, big band jazz, jive, boogie-woogie and related styles from the 1930s through to the modern swing revival. Many bands offer a mix of vintage classics and contemporary songs performed in a swing style.

Typical bookings for swing bands include vintage-themed weddings, black-tie dinners, corporate events, cocktail parties, swing dance nights and gala celebrations. Swing music creates a sophisticated, energetic atmosphere that is perfect for dancing.

The swing bands on Gig Heaven range from small combos of three to five musicians up to full big band line-ups with horn sections and vocalists. A smaller group suits intimate settings, while a larger ensemble delivers the classic big band swing sound.

Most swing bands are self-contained and bring their own instruments, PA system and amplification. Larger ensembles may have specific staging requirements. It is worth confirming technical and space needs with the band before booking.

Swing is written for dancing and most bands build the set around it, varying the tempo so the floor stays busy rather than holding one pace all night. Several will run a short demonstration early on at events where guests do not know the steps. A floor area clear of tables makes far more difference to this than the size of the line-up.

Most perform in vintage-styled suits or dresses in keeping with the era, and many will match a black-tie or 1940s theme if asked. Some carry more than one look and will confirm which suits the occasion. Mentioning the theme when enquiring is usually enough, as it rarely affects the fee.

Most line-ups include one, and in smaller groups the singer often doubles on an instrument. Some acts are instrumental only, which works well for background playing but changes the feel once people want to dance. Profiles say which format each act offers and several can supply either.
