Reporting suspicious activity or a user
If something on Gig Heaven doesn't feel right (an unusual enquiry, a supplier asking you to pay off-platform, an abusive message, or anything else suspicious) we want to know. This article covers what to report, how to report it, and what we do next.
What counts as suspicious
- Off-platform payment requests. Anyone trying to move the transaction outside Gig Heaven.
- Fake-looking enquiries. Generic messages, obvious copy-paste, implausible event details.
- Phishing or impersonation. Anyone trying to get you to sign in on an external page, or quoting from a fake email.
- Abusive language or harassment. Messages that cross the line.
- Requests for sensitive personal information beyond what's needed for the booking.
- Coercion or pressure to agree a contract or pay quickly.
For the more detailed guide to spotting the usual patterns, see Spotting and avoiding scams.
How to report
- Open the relevant event or conversation in My Account.
- Click Report event (the orange warning-sign icon).
- In the form that opens, describe what's suspicious.
- Click Send report.
See Blocking or reporting another user for the same process with a bit more detail on the moderation side.
Reports are confidential. The reported party isn't told who reported them.
What we do with a report
Every report is reviewed by a real person. Typical actions:
- Read the event and messages in full.
- Remove content or accounts that break our terms.
- Follow up with you for any extra context we need.
- Apply site-wide blocks (IP, email patterns) if a pattern is coordinated.
We don't always tell you what we did afterwards (to protect our moderation process), but we do act on every genuine report.
If it's urgent
For anything that escalates beyond a bad enquiry (threats, harassment, or a situation that feels unsafe), contact us directly in addition to reporting. Urgent reports land with a person who can act immediately.
If something bad has already happened
If you've already been scammed (paid off-platform, or shared card details on an external page), act quickly:
- Contact your bank to protect your card and reverse any payment if possible.
- Change passwords on anywhere you shared credentials.
- Contact us with the full details. We can block the scammer and help where we can.
