About / Biography

Jazz Hutch & Friends, led by vocalist Jazz Hutch (aka Jim Hutchison) and including some of Calgary’s finest jazz musicians, performs your favourite jazz standards, from swing to Latin to expressive ballads, with band size and combination tailored to suit the budget, mood and venue, whether it be a jazz club or festival, dining, dancing, a corporate function, a private party, a wedding or other special event.

jazz Hutch is an emerging jazz vocal sensation. With his unique phrasing, voice and understated and carefree delivery, and uncommon ability to bring the lyrics of the song alive and communicate with his audience he is a distinctively smooth and swinging interpreter of the many moods found in the jazz standards song book! Inspired by Kurt Elling, Mel Torme, Chet Baker and Eva Cassidy, his extensive repertoire of over 200 tunes provides a broad palette for his emotional expression and connection. Having formed Jim Hutchison Jazz Works fifteen years ago, 200 performances later his first albumn, Mood Indigo was nominated for Jazz recording of the year by the 2024 YYC Music Awards. His second album, A Jazz Hutch Christmas was nominated for Inspirational/Holiday Album of the Year by the 2025 YYC Music Awards.
