The Unknowns are an award-winning, five-piece band whose music combines the sound of vintage jazz, blues and soul with a contemporary pop twist to create an upbeat and unforgettable sound. Featuring three-part vocal harmony backed by keyboard, guitar, ukulele, acoustic bass and drums, they approach original songs and timeless jazz standards with the same contemporary polish. Inspired by their love of R&B, motown, Broadway ballads and swing, their live performances showcase the band’s exceptional musicianship and fun, irreverent attitude that wins over audiences. We have a PA if need be. 3 paring spaces. We can fit in small or large spaces - we have had experience playing in both.
Directions for the venue, if there is a backline.
We can provide sound, but not lighting.
We can play music between sets.
The venue at Maison du Jazz in Montreal was pretty special! We also had a great time playing for the Aarhus Jazz Festival in Denmark and the audience members sat outside in the rain!
We love playing to intimate audiences, as well as large stages such as Maison du Jazz in Montreal, Anacortes Arts Festival,Oak Harbor Music Festival, etc.
The three vocalists were in an Americana/blues band called Alex Ashley and The Resolve. We toured California and played Hollywood Cafe and other fun, exciting venues. We decided to do our own band in 2018 and started gigging in 2019 with The Unknowns. In 2024, we toured Montreal, Denmark, Belgium, France and Norway. We were voted 'best new group' in 2024 and awarded a plaque at a concert in Pennsylvania put on by HUGS Radio WRGG. We have been interviewed and our music has been played on the radio. All the band members have former experience with other bands such as big bands, orchestras, gypsy jazz, jazz quartets and trios, punk, funk band, cover band, etc.
