If we travel to a venue by car, it is possible to bring our own PA system/lighting equipment otherwise it has to be arranged at the venue.(We can play 100% akoustic, semi akoustic or with a PA system).

Our quartet was created in 2018 through the mutual love of Gipsy jazz music of all of us. We, Marcia, Ronald and Daniël, who have been making music together for more than 15 years, got to know John Ligthart. John was a well-known guitarist in the Gipsyjazz music scene for many years.

During the annual Django Reinhardt Festival in Fontainebleau in France, we indulged our musical hearts with the real Sinti. It inspired us to make this wonderful swing music together, which resulted in this great quartet.

Since we started we've performed many, many times at all sorts of events throughout the Netherlands and Europe, also with world famous musicians like: Mozes Rosenberg, Paulus Schäfer, Tim Kliphuis & Gismo Graff.

We play Gipsyjazz/Gipsy swing à la Django Reinhardt (1910-1953). He is the most famous Sinti guitar player and founder of this iconic music style.

Other big influences are among others: Mozes Rosenberg, Jimmy Rosenberg, Kussi Weiss, Tcha Limberger, Tim Kliphuis, Stochelo Rosenberg, Nouche Rosenberg, Paulus Schäfer, Fappy Lafertin, Gismo Graff, Amati Schmitt.

The "Gipsyjazz /Gipsy swing music" originated in the 1930s within the Roma-gipsy communities in Paris. This strongly rhythmic music is a mixture of French Musette, Jazz and Swing music from America and traditional Gipsy music. It is the first jazz style that originated in Europe.

The founder of this style is the Belgian-born Sinti guitarist Django Reinhardt who formed the ensemble "Quintette du Hot Club de France" together with violinist Stéphane Grappelli. In this ensemble, the line-up was very characteristic of this style of music: they were all stringed instruments.

On November 13, 2022, the Marcia Bamberg Swing Quartet released their debut album 'Smile'. The album contains 12 romantic and swinging English and French songs. The album is available on both vinyl and CD and can be listened to on various streaming sites such as: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Amazon Music, Tidal, Napster/Rhapsody.

We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 or 3 x 45 minute sets (more sets plus time schedule in consultation)

We’re happy to play outside but we kindly request sun, water and windproof protection for the stage, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.

We can learn specific songs before the event (if there is enough time) but we usually limit this to 2 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our extensive repertoire or let us choose the music for them

Previous clients would describe us as an energetic group that will take the audience along in our passion for music and ensures that they cannot sit still!

Lot's of bands which play this genre are instrumental bands but Django Reinhardt and his musicians played many instrumental versions of songs that originally had lyrics. With her quartet, Marcia has brought the vocals back into the songs to make Gipsyjazz music more accessible to a larger and perhaps 'new' audience, which is more enamored of music with vocals and in this way can get to know and appreciate this beautiful traditional music style.
