Review Centre: Jazz Bands

"Have known members of the Free Radicals for decades, and decided to hire them to perform at my wedding in 2014. We had some unusual requests (i.e., to perform as a marching band for a second line) and also to play some quieter "mood" music for our reception, and they were 100% game and did a wonderful job--professional musicians who know how to work a crowd with minimal handholding from event organizers! Guests really enjoyed and would recommend!"

"I can’t say enough about Chic Music! We hired them for our wedding and they were extremely timely and prompt as far as communication. They were so fun to work with and Serena listened to our every request and incorporated them throughout the night. Chic Music is so talented and everyone at our wedding gave us compliments for choosing them. I highly recommend them!"

"If Dr. John and Tom Waits leave you wanting more, lend your ear to one-of-a-kind Aussie artist Pugsley Buzzard, who assimilates their piano playing, singing and songwriting style into his own blues-jazz musical distillation. On this, his fourth solo CD since 2007’s Hammer These Tongs, Buzzard delivers an all-original set recorded in New Orleans, Melbourne and the Blue Mountains. The Aussie backing musicians are so hip to Buzzard’s swampy Crescent City-influenced grooves that it’s difficult to tell which tracks were recorded where. Complementing the Big Easy contingent of tenor and baritone saxophonist Jimmie Carpenter, trumpeter Antonio Gambrell, trombonist Craig Klein, double bassist Nathan Lambertson, guitarist John Fohl, drummer Charles Brewer and singer Irene Sage, is an equally talented band of top local players. The opening bars of the lead-in blues mambo instrumental ‘Cigarstore Indian’, on which Buzzard’s commanding piano echoes Professor Longhair, James Booker and Allen Toussaint all rolled into one, promises a bourbon-drenched musical trip to follow. Buzzard doesn’t disappoint, his gravelly Joe Cocker-by-way-of-Coco Robicheaux vocals and pulsating piano serving up a solid mix of New Orleans R&B from the Fats Domino styled ‘Dirty Kings’ and the inventive minor-key rave-up ‘Gumbo Boogie’, to the gris-gris-soaked, Night Tripper hoodoo funk of ‘Po’ Boy’, ‘Fire In The Hole’ and ‘Mischief’. The Dixieland flavoured ‘Sin City Lights’ gives way to ‘Salamanca Blues’ a solo instrumental displaying Buzzard’s mastery of stride piano. "Home Swing Home est un groupe original, réussissant la synthèse du jazz, de la musique manouche et de la variété. Douceur et swing sont les deux caractéristiques du groupe, qui de ce fait est parfaitement taillé pour les évènements type mariages, vins d’honneur etc. Je recommande tout à fait !"

"The Jersey Sure Cats performed at our wedding on April 7th, 2018 in Allentown, NJ and were absolutely awesome. The songs they performed were varied and their voices harmonize beautiful. Sam, the lead singer, has a fantastic voice and really made our wedding song, All of Me by John Legend, her own. I have received tons of compliments from my wedding guests on how great the band played and how they enjoyed the variety and tone of their music. The wedding reception was held in a small banquet hall and they played quietly enough that you could enjoy both their music and be able to talk to and hear others at your table. I highly recommend the Jersey Sure Cats for any type of gala. They are very reasonably priced, easy to work worth and best of all, an excellent band. Please don't hesitate to consider them as they are truly the BEST!"

"Wow. The best band we could’ve asked for. They were so flexible before our wedding, learning new songs and being flexible to our asks. Then on the day, the most beautiful piano solo work for our ceremony and amazing full band on the aperitif and during dinner. Honestly, couldn’t recommend these guys enough, they were perfect and so good! "
