How to stay safe on Gig Heaven

Gig Heaven is built to keep customers and suppliers safe - messages are moderated, contact details stay private until a booking is confirmed, and the deposit system means nobody has to take anyone on trust. A few simple habits keep it that way. These tips apply equally whether you're hiring or being hired.

Safety tips

  • Don't share any sensitive personal information. For example: contact details, passwords, card information, ID card numbers, or any other private information. Contact details are shared automatically once a booking is confirmed - see sharing personal contact details.
  • Only open links or file attachments you trust. We recommend that you use an antivirus on your device for extra security.
  • Don't use any remote access tools. Refrain from using tools (e.g. TeamViewer) that allow someone else to potentially take control of your computer. Our video meetings allow screen-sharing, so such tools should not be necessary.
  • Don't engage in any conversation that makes you feel uncomfortable. Please report any inappropriate messages you receive - see blocking or reporting another user or contact us.
  • Verify the identity of anyone you are entering into a contract with. If you are at all unsure about the authenticity of a customer or supplier, we recommend holding a video meeting and speaking face-to-face before agreeing a booking.
  • Do not agree to pay money on behalf of any third parties. For example, if a customer asks a supplier to pay another supplier at the same event, this should be treated as highly suspicious and is not recommended.
Keep payments on the rails the contract sets out: the 10% deposit is always paid to Gig Heaven through the site, and the balance goes directly to the supplier as written in the contract - if anyone asks you to pay differently, treat it as a warning sign. See spotting and avoiding scams.
