Review Centre: Folk Bands

"If you're looking for a band who can come onstage to a marquee full of people quietly chatting and drinking and within minutes turn them into full-scale dance Machine with everybody in the place laughing and enjoying themselves, Then I think BLAG might be the act for you. Guests at our event (held to raise funds to prevent the destruction of a greenbelt zone) ranged from 20s to 60s, But all were captivated by the humour professionalism and generally good time emanating from rom the band. I am a professional filmmaker and have shot an l lot of promo videos for bands, from Euorope (yep, “the final countdown”) to Paul Young to AC/DC, and BLAG have that same charismatic quality that you see in all these massively successful bands. For a 3 piece they also a pack a monster sound, and over the course of three sets in one evening they played not only the gay Gordons and other traditional stuff but also sex and drugs and rock'n' roll and people are strange by the doors - not something you hear from average ceilidh band. I would highly recommend them if you're having any kind of function we want to get the whole crowd involved. Oh and did I mention they’re very nice guys as well?"

"Favorite song played at birthday event Ayden was terrific! He arrived early and got settled /prepped very quickly. We had a last minute conflict come up that pushed the start time back significantly and he waited patiently and was professional until the end. It was also a challenging / rare song to play and he did it very well. Would definitely recommend him or use him for my next event."

"22nd January 2020. Bob Ferguson Songwriter. The last couple of years we had the pleasure of having the Scottish musician Bob Ferguson on stage. He is a great performer. With Bob in the house, you're sure of having an entertaining afternoon or evening. And the music he's playing is diverse. Scottish and Irish folk, but also songs made by himself. We knew Bob already from concerts he played in our folkclub with Beggars Row and Celtic Hearts. But his solo concerts are also from high quality. So whenever you have the chance to get him on stage in your folkclub, bar or festival.....?! Book this guy! "

"It was SO WONDERFUL to have you as part of our 'Celebration of Seeds'. Seeds can be taken in the literal way or indeed sowing the seeds of thoughts and feelings inspired by your beautiful tunes. Everybody I spoke to said what a joyful addition it was to have you there as part of our event. Two of my favourite moments were the dancing and then your version of 'Here, there and everywhere' which is a particular favourite of mine. A member of staff at the library said to me that this is what Saturdays should be like every week. Thank you for bringing so much joy to the event. And YES I would highly recommned!!!!!"

"Roberts music was the perfect touch to a perfect day. Both the highland pipes solo and the trio performing together was awesome. He worked with us and our ceremony plans and provided excellent ideas and professional input. We both highly recommend Robert and his trio!!"

"We love them, they are an amazing band!! We first saw them live for an event at our church and decided to reach out to hire them for a 30th Birthday party and they did an amazing work, they clearly explained every song, they took their time, it never felt rushed or a hassle, they were very accommodating and overall we had a great communication with Grace. Definitely recommend them they are all lovely people, easy to get on with and I hope they continue to grow and be blessed, they do a fantastic job!"

"Thank you for the most romantic and Scottish first dance and for your ceilidh. Tricia was great when calling the dances and explaining us what to do. We all had lots of fun. You also managed to make my dad dance, who ususally never does! I was truly amazed to see him on the dance floor. With your wonderful music you made the evening even more special and you created wonderful memories that we will bring forever in our hearts. I truly wish to meet you again and dance at the rythm of your wonderful Scottish music. I have purchased your disc in ITunes as I am in love with your songs! "

"Honestly - look no further, these are they guys you are looking for. I booked Blag to play in the local village hall for my birthday party. They were excellent musicians and lovely guys - polite, friendly and very professional. Their repertoire included many genres of music and they were able to adapt the music on the night to suit the room. The first set was an eclectic mix of music - all brilliantly played. The ceilidh in the second set was really fun, with Michael (very patiently) teaching us the moves. Everyone has been commenting on how fantastic they were ever since the party. I can't recommend them highly enough. Thank you for a really wonderful and memorable evening."
