About / Biography

'Very40' is a highly-regarded solo tribute to the iconic British Reggae band UB40, book with confidence! Having sung professionally since 1998 in various bands, Dave matches both the voice and the emotion of UB40 singer Ali Campbell, putting his heart and soul into his 90 minute show that pays homage to the "Ali era" and the legends that are UB40.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

"We need a performance space of at least 8 meters x 5 meters. We require 2 x 13 amp power sockets and 3 parking spaces."

What information do you require about a venue?

"We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. We’d also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue."

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

"Yes, we’re completely self contained. We bring our own PA system to all of our gigs as well as a simple lighting rig."

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

"Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

"I performed for one of the teams at the London Olympics. It was amazing to entertain the athletes and we almost felt like part of the team!"

What's your favourite type of event?

“I performed for a corporate event at a top London venue, entertaining guests from across the business. The atmosphere was incredible”

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started performing while I was still at school, and that early experience quickly shaped the direction of my career. Since then, we’ve gone on to perform at hundreds of weddings, private parties, and events across the UK and internationally.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I’ve been influenced by a wide range of artists across reggae, soul, and classic feel-good music, drawing inspiration from the energy, storytelling, and live performance styles of the greats.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

"We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 x 45 minutes or 2 x 60 minute sets. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best."

Are you happy to perform outside?

"We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area."

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

"We can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit this to 5 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them."

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

"Previous customers would describe me as a high energy solo singer that loves to get the audience on their feet dancing."
